GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT

Summary Position located in the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Department, Naval Station Great Lakes, IL. Responsible for technical design and implementation of maintenance program for the Golf Course, driving range, and practice putting green, including irrigation, facilities, equipment, within budget. Responsibilities Determine pesticide, chemical, fertilizer, and seed requirements for 18‑hole course. Tour course to assess work progress and condition. Manage irrigation system to ensure proper water application. Direct soil nutrient and fertilizer applications for greens, tees, fairways, roughs. Collect soil samples and interpret results for amendments. Handle pesticide storage, application, and hazardous waste program. Respond to turf damage by fungus or insects; calibrate equipment for accurate application. Maintain equipment and oversee repair; advise on new and replacement equipment. Requisition, store, and inventory materials and equipment. Supervise laborers and seasonal workers; train and assign tasks; approve leave and verify timekeeping. Prepare annual budget estimates and ordering requests; maintain required records. Assist with snow removal of MWR facilities. Requirements Pass all applicable records and background check. Pass E‑Verify employment verification check. Valid REAL‑ID or authorized ID for access as of May 7 2025. Lift 40 lb unassisted. Maintain national agency check or higher clearance as required. Maintain CPR/First aid certificate. Maintain State and Federal pesticide mixing license. Qualifications Broad background in golf‑course maintenance and operations, with agronomic practices experience. Knowledge of pest types and pesticide applications; certification in herbicide application. Proficient in determination of operational methods and analysis of complex problems. Professional expertise with golf‑course equipment and understanding of golf rules. Leadership and supervisory ability. Valid state driver’s license; CPR/First aid certificate; State and Federal pesticide mixing licenses required. Education No positive education requirement.
