HR Director

HR Director (Contract-to-Hire)
Location: Richmond, CA (Hybrid - 3 Days Onsite)
Pay Rate: $48-$55/hour
Start Date: ASAP

We are seeking a hands-on HR Director for a contract-to-hire opportunity in Richmond, CA. This role is ideal for an experienced HR leader who enjoys being actively involved in day-to-day operations while also helping drive process improvements and compliance initiatives.

This is not a purely strategic or back-office position. The ideal candidate will be highly visible, approachable, and engaged with employees while rolling up their sleeves to support critical HR functions.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee daily HR operations across the organization.
  
• Serve as a key point of contact for employees, providing front-facing HR support and guidance.
  
• Manage benefits administration, workers' compensation, leave management, accommodations, and open enrollment activities.
  
• Help address a backlog of time-sensitive benefits, payroll, and leave-related matters.
  
• Maintain inventory and tracking of employee-related issues and ensure timely resolution.
  
• Draft, update, and implement HR policies, procedures, SOPs, handbook revisions, and employee agreements.
  
• Support organizational initiatives including arbitration agreement rollouts and employee acknowledgments.
  
• Develop, manage, and monitor the HR compliance calendar to ensure legal and organizational compliance requirements are met.
  
• Oversee third and fourth quarter performance review processes, compensation reviews, and employee merit increases.
  
• Partner closely with leadership on HR process improvements and system development initiatives.
  
• Supervise and support the HR Generalist and HR Administrator.
  
• Support open enrollment meetings and other onsite employee-facing HR activities as needed.
  
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, including leadership responsibilities.
  
• Strong background in HR operations, benefits administration, leave management, compliance, and employee support.
  
• Proven ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
  
• Experience creating or improving HR processes, policies, and operational systems.
  
• Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships across all levels of an organization.
  
• Experience supervising HR staff preferred.
  
• Workday experience is a plus but not required.
  
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  

Work Environment

• Hybrid schedule with 3 days onsite in Richmond, CA .
  
• Must be flexible and available to come onsite additional days as needed for employee meetings, open enrollment sessions, and business needs.
