About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience License: Active RN license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS Must-Have: Candidates must have strong experience in emergency room nursing. Candidates must be capable of reading and interpreting EKG strips. Candidates must have 2 supervisor references from the submitting modality. Description: The unit is a general community emergency room with an 18-bed capacity, including 4 fast-track beds. Nurses do not perform triage duties. Mental health nurses handle behavioral health patients. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4. The facility uses Cerner for electronic medical records. Charge nurses generally do not have patient assignments but provide relief for breaks. Nurse aides are available based on census and staffing needs. Every other weekend and holiday rotations are required. Scrub color is navy, with additional clothing color restrictions. Vents are not common on the unit. Hospitalists or intensivists are available on-site. Respiratory therapy and pharmacy services are available 24/7. Shifts are 12 hours with report taken at the bedside. Self-scheduling is utilized, with schedules published four weeks in advance. Travelers can access schedules from home and may request availability for extra shifts. Floating to other facilities may occur, but mid-shift floats are rare. Orientation includes 1 to 2 days on the floor with a preceptor. Common diagnoses include chest pain, exacerbation of chronic diseases, and psychiatric holds. All major cases are transported to specialized facilities. The hospital reserves the right to cancel up to 4 shifts during the assignment.
