Municipal AssociateDirect Counsel is seeking a Municipal Associate to join a sophisticated and growing public law practice in Northern California. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with 2–5 years of experience who is interested in advising cities, counties, special districts, and other public agencies on a broad range of municipal law matters.The ideal candidate will have experience handling public agency or municipal law matters and possess strong writing, research, analytical, and drafting skills. Candidates should be self-motivated, collaborative, and comfortable interfacing directly with public officials and agency staff.ResponsibilitiesReview and draft agreements, including public agency and municipal contractsConduct legal research and prepare memoranda on complex municipal law issuesAssist with matters involving public contracting, procurement, and regulatory complianceAnalyze issues related to the Political Reform Act, FPPC Regulations, Brown Act, and Public Records ActResearch and advise on land use, zoning, CEQA, and Subdivision Map Act mattersSupport transactional and advisory matters for public agency clientsCommunicate effectively with clients, public officials, and internal teamsQualifications2–5 years of experience in municipal law, public agency law, land use, or related practice areasStrong academic credentials and excellent written/verbal communication skillsAbility to work independently while managing multiple assignmentsCalifornia Bar admission requiredCompensation & BenefitsBase salary range: $150,000 – $190,000Annual performance-based and billable hours bonusesMainly remote, but must reside in CAReasonable billable hour expectationsCompetitive health benefits and 401(k) with partial matchStrong mentorship and long-term professional development opportunitiesThis opportunity offers meaningful client interaction, sophisticated public law work, and a collaborative environment that supports professional growth and work-life balance.Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply through Direct Counsel.
