Biomass Boiler Operations Specialist

Picture starting your shift at a local mill, climbing into a front-end loader as the sun (or moon) rises, and keeping the plant’s boilers fueled and steady. If you thrive on hands-on work, heavy equipment, and the satisfaction of smooth-running systems, this role is for you.

You’ll move from the yard to the control room, balancing outdoor fuel handling with indoor system monitoring. One hour you’re managing conveyors and the hog system that feeds chips, sawdust, shavings, and bark. The next, you’re logging water chemistry checks and assisting with a valve repair—always staying in sync with the Power Plant Operator on fuel quality and boiler performance.

• Operate front-end loaders and manage conveyors to keep boilers consistently fueled.
• Maintain and operate the hog fuel system for reliable material flow.
• Perform basic water chemistry tasks: read and log water meters, gauges, and sight glasses; change water and air filters.
• Assist with mechanical repairs on boilers, piping, valves, and gauges.
• Monitor fuel types (chips, sawdust, shavings, bark) and report conditions to the Power Plant Operator.

Rotating shifts are required—including both day and overnight coverage—to ensure boilers remain operational.

• Outdoors: Yard and equipment operation in varying weather conditions.
• Indoors: Boiler oversight and operation after training is complete.

• Prior heavy equipment operating experience.
• Willingness to work a rotating schedule (days and overnights).
