Engineering Manager

Seven Seas Water Group (SSWG) delivers water treatment solutions across the United States, Caribbean, and Latin America, operating more than 200 treatment plants to serve industrial, commercial, governmental, municipal, and hospitality customers. Job Summary The Engineering Manager leads the engineering team that designs, plans, and delivers water treatment plants—primarily seismic- and brackish‑water reverse osmosis (SWRO/BWRO) systems—serving municipal and industrial customers in the U.S. and international markets. The role manages Project Engineers, Process Engineers, and EI&C Engineers, ensuring engineering deliverables are on schedule, complete, and of the highest quality to support timely plant delivery. Primary Responsibilities Project Delivery: Own the engineering schedule commitment on every project, planning, sequencing, and completing drawings, bills of quantity, control systems, specifications, and procurement packages to support on‑time plant delivery. Backward Planning: Sequence deliverables to release long‑lead procurement packages early, arrive before construction needs, and keep engineering off the critical path. Early Warning System: Track deliverable status, surface emerging risks, and propose options (resequencing, adding resources, or outsourcing) to mitigate delays. Cross‑Functional Coordination: Ensure collaboration among process, mechanical, and EI&C engineering and coordinate with the 3D Plant Design group so engineering and design remain integrated. Design Reviews: Facilitate HAZOPs and plant design reviews early enough to influence design and prevent procurement or construction hold‑ups. Business Development Support: Provide engineering effort estimates and technical input on proposals, and supply realistic capacity commitments for pursuit schedules. Talent Development and Mentoring: Mentor each engineer, set development plans, review work with a teaching mindset, and grow technical bench strength. Team Alignment: Assess each engineer’s strengths, match people to projects, and foster a trusting environment where problems surface early without fear of blame. Leading By Example: Work as a manager, remain technically credible, and lead by example. Capacity Planning: Own capacity planning, forecast engineering demand, maintain a rolling view of load versus capacity by discipline, and manage demand proactively. Outsourcing Strategy: Develop and execute a flexible capacity strategy blending core staff with outsourcing, selecting appropriate subcontracting models and managing commercial and technical risk. Subcontractor Management: Build and maintain a qualified bench of subcontractors, pre‑vet contractors, and enforce SSW standards for all deliverables. Quality Assurance: Serve as the quality gate, ensuring all engineering work—internal or subcontracted—complies with SSW standards and is of the required quality for long‑term operation. P&ID Culture: Enforce a P&ID‑centered engineering culture with disciplined scope boundaries, tie points, and revision control. Document Control: Maintain disciplined drawing and document control, ensuring single source of truth, managed revisions, and transparent status tracking. Transparent Communication: Communicate schedules, workload, performance, and department KPIs up and down the organization. Continuous Improvement: Champion continual improvement of standards, templates, tools, and processes. What Success Looks Like Projects delivered on schedule without surprises—drawings, bills, controls, and procurement packages planned and executed to support on‑time delivery. Engineering never causes plant delays; procurement and construction receive timely inputs, and risks are acted upon early. Engineers grow—measurable increases in scope and complexity each engineer can manage year over year. No surprise capacity crises; demand peaks are absorbed through the contractor bench and planned outsourcing, avoiding burnout. Right people are assigned to the right projects with deliberate assignments. Engineering deliverables pass first‑time checks and meet SSW standards without exception. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline; Chemical or Mechanical Engineering preferred. 8–12 years of engineering experience in a project‑execution / system‑integration environment; water treatment experience preferred, SWRO/BWRO highly desired. Track record of delivering engineering scope on schedule; be prepared to discuss projects and avoid engineering on the critical path. 5+ years managing engineers with demonstrable success in people development. Direct experience managing engineering subcontracts and contract labor, including scoping, negotiating, and quality oversight. Technically credible reviewer—able to read, check, and approve P&IDs, PFDs, GA specifications, and calculations across disciplines. Assertive and decisive, able to enforce standards, make tough calls, and act as a voice of reason and authority. Strong oral and written communication skills with internal teams, customers, and vendors. Ability to work a hybrid schedule (multiple days per week in Tampa) and travel 10–20% domestically and internationally. Preferred Qualifications PE license highly desired. PMP certification a plus. Spanish language ability strongly preferred; multilingual skills desired. Experience with ERP‑driven project execution (IFS Cloud or similar) and modern engineering document management practices.
