Senior Electrical Engineer - Plant Support & Reliabillity

About the Role Reporting directly to the Senior Manager of Electrical Plant Support Engineering, the Senior Electrical Engineer - Plant Support & Reliability will lead and support the electrical plant support engineering team. The role focuses on operations and maintenance support, providing troubleshooting and technical guidance to plant and maintenance teams across 35+ facilities worldwide. The engineer will also assist the design team with high, medium, and low voltage electrical systems, including switchgears, relay protection, transformers, motor control centers, and more. Extensive collaboration with sites requires approximately 30% travel. Key Responsibilities Assist the design engineering team to review and approve electrical system design documents such as one-line/three-line diagrams, DC control schematics, wiring diagrams, arc flash studies, short‑circuit and voltage‑drop calculations. Support development of scope of work for electrical AE firms and coordinate with suppliers and contractors as needed. Provide onsite consulting for commissioning, startup, and construction projects, offering guidance on electrical design and installation issues. Provide direct electrical troubleshooting support, and when necessary, engage external engineering firms to address plant operations. Analyze electrical failure root causes and develop cost‑effective technical solutions using tools such as SEL Synchro Wave Event Analyzer, GE EnerVista, and similar. Create and maintain technical service bulletins on lessons learned and reliability/availability best practices, ensuring adherence to technical standards and OEM bulletins. Collaborate with corporate, plant engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to drive continuous improvement and productivity goals. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution. Minimum 4+ years of engineering experience in electrical power distribution. PE license preferred; EIT required. Ability to travel approximately 30%. Experience with high, medium, and low voltage distribution systems and electrical power generation, preferably in large utility power plants or large industrial facilities. Proficiency in reading one-line/three-line diagrams, DC control schematics, wiring diagrams, ground/neutral (GA) drawings related to interconnections, substations, and power plant equipment. Experience with microprocessor, solid‑state, and electro‑mechanical protective relaying schemes (Medium Voltage), including coordination and development of relay settings or troubleshooting of relay‑related trips; SEL relay experience highly preferred. Proven problem‑solving skills and ability to analyze data to identify trends. Effective written and oral communication skills; ability to produce technical reports and work packages. Strong ability to communicate complex information clearly to varied audiences. Capability to handle multiple facility emergent support assignments concurrently. Experience with SEL Synchro Wave Event Analyzer, GE EnerVista, and similar tools. Experience using SKM tool for coordination study purposes. The final salary offered for this role will be determined based on factors including, but not limited to: experience, education, geographic location, skills and competencies, travel requirements and/or union contracts (if applicable). Pay ranges are reviewed from time to time and may be modified in the future. The pay range for the primary location of this position is: $95,200.00 - $126,700.00 USD. For hourly roles, this is the annualized salary. To calculate the hourly rate, divide by 2080.
