Join the #VTeamLife.What you’ll be doing...As an Outside Plant Engineer, you will manage a variety of internal and external partners and vendors to oversee OSP/ISP construction and maintenance of network extension projects to deliver fiber to new and existing customers. Your vital role will ensure that these multi-stakeholder, complex projects are delivered on time, to specifications, and within budget. You will be managing all engineering and construction activities of assigned projects associated with expanding and maintaining the OSP network infrastructure.Leading engineering efforts on multiple projects, driving productivity through use of vendor resources to meet deliverables.Engaging appropriate internal and external organizations and individuals with good written/verbal communications to accomplish required tasks with focus on quality and speed to market.Coordinating project activities with contractors, developers, municipalities and consultants.Proposing solutions supported by sound engineering and operational productivity to achieve goals in creative and effective ways.Analyzing implications of changes from the original schedule and taking required corrective actions to ensure the project stays on track.Recognizing vulnerabilities in network infrastructure and making intelligent decisions to ensure reliability within financial constraints.Preparing detailed cost analysis, project specifications, spend forecasts, route mapping, requisitions, and business justifications.Processing reports, vendor invoices, material receipts, and other administrative duties.Performing field meetings, inspection of construction in progress, and quality control of final product to ensure company requirements are met.Communicating project status and progress to team members and customers.Responding immediately to network outages, coordinating necessary resources and activities for prompt and appropriate restoral.What we’re looking for...You know a lot about outside plant engineering practices. As a strong communicator, you can quickly build relationships with a diverse range of people and explain complex technical issues in a way that everyone can understand.Key Responsibilities:Design Routes: Create maps for fiber optic cable pathsManage Permits: Work with local cities, towns and departments of transportation to secure rights-of-way permits.Ability to coordinate with vendors, utility providers, and local government agenciesEstimate Costs: Build budgets, material lists, and project timelines.Oversee Construction: Direct contractors and check field work for quality.Respond to network outages addressing fiber damage for network restorationDocument Systems: Manage and update records using systems such as Fiber-X and CanvasYou’ll need to have:Associate’s degree or two or more years of work experience.Three or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through work experience and/or military experience.Willingness to travel up to approximately 25% of the time.Valid Driver's license.Even better if you have one or more of the following:Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical/science/mathematics fields.Experience in CAD, 3GIS, ARCGIS, Google Earth or other mapping and drafting software.Experience in Google Workspace or Microsoft Office Suite.Experience with Verizon applications such as ERP, nSAP, CoE/Canvas, 3GIS, Fiber-X, FIAT, and VPM.Corporate data and reporting platforms (Google Sheets, Excel, Tableau, Cheetah, or others).Experience with pole attachment and make-ready processesExperience with AI tools to automate repetitive tasks(Gemini, NotebookLM, Claude).If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every “even better” qualification listed above.Where you’ll be workingIn this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes working from home and a minimum of three days per week in the office, which will be set by your manager.
