General Definition of Work
Perform specialized technical tasks and diagnostics in the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of electrical and electronic components for City water and wastewater facilities. Perform skilled electrical work on 480-volt, and medium-voltage systems up to 4160 volts. This position operates under the moderate supervision of the assigned supervisor, with opportunities to exercise supervisory responsibilities over a small crew, ensuring the efficient and effective completion of assigned tasks.

Percentages for each function are subject to fluctuations. Diagnose and troubleshoot industrial electrical components, motor controls, VFDs, PLC I/O, and SCADA. Repair and replace industrial electrical components. Install new electrical circuits and systems; Inspect electrical systems to ensure compliance with the National Electrical Code

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

- Thorough knowledge with the National Electrical Code and relevant local and state regulations and codes.
- Understanding of advanced industrial electrical installation and repair practices and techniques.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, tools, equipment, and supplies used for testing and repairing electrical systems.
- Awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions, including the proper use and storage of chemicals, and understanding OSHA Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for hazardous chemicals in the workplace.
- Proficiency in responding to work orders, troubleshooting, and diagnosing electrical problems and failures.
- Skill in estimating the necessary materials, time, parts, and equipment required to complete assignments.
- Ability to maintain accurate repair and maintenance records and interpret blueprints and schematics.
- Capability to follow and enforce safety standards, including working in detention facilities and other secure areas.
- Assist with commissioning and startup of new electrical equipment, plant expansions, and system upgrades.
- Install, troubleshoot, and maintain 480/277-volt, 240-volt, and 120-volt electrical systems, including MCCs, control panels, and branch circuits.
- Ability to diagnose electrical failures in critical water and wastewater treatment equipment.
- Proficiency with electrical test equipment, including multimeters, insulation resistance testers (meggers), and voltage detection devices.
- Working knowledge of motor controls, VFDs, PLC I/O, and SCADA-connected systems.
- Thorough understanding of electrical safety practices, arc-flash hazards, and energized work procedures.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize critical systems, and respond effectively during emergencies.
- Performs skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and replacement of machinery and equipment in a water and/or wastewater treatment plant; does related work as required
- Ability to work independently to complete daily tasks according to the work schedule.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Associate's degree in electronic technology or another closely related field with moderate experience in the maintenance of automated electrical or electronic control systems, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in the maintenance of automated electrical or electronic control systems.
- Thorough knowledge of the installation, repair, troubleshooting, and replacement of all electrical components and the ability to apply this knowledge to general municipal building facilities, including water and wastewater treatment and pump station equipment.
- Thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code, skilled in the use of all diagnostic equipment to successfully repair electronic components.
- Working knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including 480V and medium voltage systems up to 4160 volts.
- Ability to assist in performing skilled work in the maintenance, repair, and replacement of machinery and equipment in a water and/or wastewater treatment plant; does related work as required
- Ability to prepare reports, ability to read and understand electrical schematics and line diagrams.
- NIMS 100, 200, and 700 training certificates within 12 months of hire.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in the industrial electrical field
- Valid North Carolina driver's license.
