Building Inspector / Senior Building Inspector Schedule: Full-Time Experience Level: Building Inspector to Senior Building Inspector About the Opportunity We are seeking qualified Building Inspectors and Senior Building Inspectors to join a growing team supporting residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects throughout the Los Angeles area. In this role, you will perform field inspections and, depending on experience, assist with plan reviews to ensure construction complies with California building codes, approved plans, and applicable regulations. This is an excellent opportunity to work on diverse projects while contributing to public safety and quality construction. Responsibilities Perform inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects during all phases of construction. Verify compliance with approved plans, building codes, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations. Review construction documents, blueprints, and specifications for code compliance. Identify code violations and communicate required corrective actions to contractors, owners, architects, and engineers. Prepare detailed inspection reports, correction notices, and supporting documentation. Conduct follow-up inspections to confirm that required corrections have been completed. Interpret and enforce applicable California Building, Residential, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical, Fire, Accessibility, Energy, and Green Building Codes. Answer technical questions regarding inspection requirements and code compliance. Maintain accurate inspection records using electronic permitting and inspection systems. Coordinate with plan reviewers, permitting staff, engineers, and project teams to resolve construction issues. Participate in preconstruction meetings and provide technical guidance as needed. Stay current on code updates, construction practices, and industry standards. Must Have’s We only need to meet the certification requirements for one of the following positions, not both. Building Inspector: One Building Inspector certification + One Trade Inspector certification You must have: One Building Inspector certification: Commercial Building Inspector, or Residential Building Inspector PLUS Electrical Inspector, or Plumbing Inspector, or Mechanical Inspector Senior Building Inspector: One Combination Inspector certification You must have: A Combination Inspector certification , or A Commercial Combination Inspector certification An equivalent combination-inspector certification from a recognized organization may also be accepted. All certifications must be issued by a recognized code-certification organization, such as ICC, ICBO, IAPMO, or an equivalent organization , and must cover a code used by the County of Los Angeles . Qualifications Knowledge of California Building Codes and accepted construction practices. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, and technical specifications. Strong communication and customer-service skills. Excellent organizational and documentation abilities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic inspection or permitting software. Must pass a Live Scan background check. Preferred Qualifications Certified Access Specialist, CASp, certification. Experience working for a city, county, or public-agency Building and Safety Department. Experience performing both field inspections and plan reviews. Experience inspecting public works, healthcare, educational, municipal, industrial, or infrastructure projects. Previous mentoring or leadership experience, particularly for the Senior Building Inspector position.
