This role plays a key part in working closely with the Dockmaster to supervise and guide Waterfront Technicians and other trades. This position helps ensure the safe, timely, and efficient use of docks, berths, critical vessel evolutions, and marine resources while maintaining compliance with applicable maritime regulations and shipyard procedures.Essential FunctionsLead the preparation of the site and coordination for docking vessels in land bays or dry dock, including preparing docking plans, vessel movement and positioning, haul-outs, and blocking support for docking operationsEffectively communicate with vessel crews, tug operators, and other shipyard trades to coordinate schedules and provide general waterfront support with logistics, line handlers, and other support resourcesTrain and mentor personnel with operating small boat operations, 600T marine travel lift, floating drydock assets, and high-risk vessel evolutions with proper guidance and supervisionMaintain and monitor the condition of waterfront materials, inventory, and cleanliness of warehouse and shop spacesTrack and maintain records and reports related to dock utilization, vessel arrivals/departures, and operational incidentsOther duties as assigned, including the occasional overtimeDomestic and international travel may be required.RequirementsMust be proficient with measuring and marking for vessel blockingAbility to safely operate power tools and maintenance equipment while maintaining safety compliance with shipyard procedures, maritime regulations, and environmental requirementsMust have ability to train personnel and perform line handling with vessel lines for mooring and vessel support activities alongside the crewAbility to operate and maintain small boats, travel lift, waterfront, and heavy equipment operations preferredAbility to work in inclement weather (cold, hot, rain, snow, etc.)Must have strong Microsoft Office Suite computer skills and MS ProjectMust have basic organizational, time management, written and verbal communication skillsMust have ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanorMust adhere to ISO and OSHA policies established by FMSNA and have high values for safety awarenessEducation and ExperienceJourneyman, Technical, or Associate's degree, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience;3 years of experience in maritime, shipyard, waterfront, port, or vessel operations requiredHave or are willing to obtain Travel Lift Operation Certification and NAVSEA docking experience preferredCompetenciesFincantieri's core competencies reflect our values and key behavioral expectations for all employees:Open Mindset: Identify and solve problems, embrace change, and seek continuous learningStrategic Leadership: Build trust, unity, and accountability while working toward shared goalsAccomplishment: Take ownership, deliver results, and ensure customer satisfactionSocial Connection: Collaborate, communicate, and value diversity and inclusionPhysical Demands and Work EnvironmentWhile performing job duties, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand or walk; use hands and arms to grasp, handle, manipulate, or feel objects and controls; stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch; and speak or hear.
