Role Overview
As a Quality Control / Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), you’ll help ensure structural steel fabrication and erection work aligns with AWS D1.1, AISC requirements, and project specifications through consistent inspection, coordination, and clear documentation.
Key responsibilities:
- Inspect shop and field welds against structural/shop drawings, welding symbols, and code
- Verify welder qualifications and confirm proper use of WPS with supporting PQR documentation
- Evaluate fit-up, joint preparation, preheat/interpass controls, and completed weld quality
- Review material test reports (MTRs) and maintain material identification and traceability
- Coordinate, witness, and review NDT activities and results (UT, MT, PT)
- Perform bolting inspection per RCSC when applicable
- Document nonconformances, track corrective actions, and compile closeout quality records
- Support AISC certification needs and audit readiness
Required qualifications/skills:
- Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification
- Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code – Steel
- Experience in structural steel fabrication/erection
- Strong quality documentation/reporting and communication skills
