School Bus And/Or Van Aide Position

This posting is for a part-time, casual/seasonal School Bus and/or Van Aide position with the Caesar Rodney School District. Part-time Aides work up to 29 or fewer hours per week. Hours may vary based on operational needs, and are not guaranteed. This is an anticipated vacancy. Openings for this role become available at various times throughout the year. Primary Purpose: To ensure the safe transportation of students to and from school.

Essential Functions:

• Meet the requirements of the regular daily bus route for the purpose of transporting children to and from school in a safe and timely fashion.
• Follow all State and Federal rules and regulations.
• Adhere to the procedures, policies, and practices presented in the "Bus Driver and Bus Attendants Handbook."
• Keep the buses clean and in an orderly condition.
• Be fair and firm with discipline of your passengers and be mindful of the safety of student riders when they are approaching, entering, riding, and leaving the bus.
• Knowledge of rules pertaining to the transportation of school children with responsibility to advise the students on the bus of the rules and the infractions.
• Responsibility to be courteous, pleasant and demonstrate respect for all students, school personnel, parents and the general motoring public.
• Responsibility to immediately report unusual incidents or events and to follow the directions provided by the Dispatcher.
• Report to work as scheduled or before in order to prepare the bus and start the route on time regardless of weather conditions.
• Board, transport, and discharge passengers.
• May lift handicapped passengers and assist passengers into and out of bus as required by Transportation Services Department policy and procedure.
• May operate a mechanized wheelchair lift.
• Ensure that students and equipment are safely fastened in seats, when necessary.
• Maintain and update current student and trip routes.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Performs other related tasks as assigned.

Travel Requirements: Travel between district schools and various off-site activity/event locations is required.

Salary: Bus Aide assignments are compensated in accordance with the State of Delaware and local salary schedules, based on experience. Van Aide assignments are compensated at a flat rate of $18.59 per hour.

Pre-Employment Requirements: Individuals must provide official high school transcripts, if applicable, updated resume, and three (3) letters of recommendation. All persons employed by the Caesar Rodney School District are required to submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test. Anyone offered employment is required to provide the following: proper identification (Social Security Card and Driver's License), documentation of eligibility for employment in the U.S.A., completion of I-9 form, and completion of paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry. Transportation employees are subject to a pre-employment drug test and physical (initially and annually). Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
