Home Health Occupational Therapist (OT)

Key Responsibilities of a Home Health Occupational Therapist:

• Deliver occupational therapy to patients facing challenges in daily tasks due to illness or injury
• Collaborate with a home health team, which may include RNs, LPNs, CNAs, HHAs, PTs, and SLPs, focusing on the patient’s care plan and personal objectives
• Evaluate patients, identify deficits, set therapy goals, and document progress
• Guide patients through exercises aimed at enhancing fine motor skills and coordination
• Recommend adaptive equipment, such as grab bars and shower chairs, to provide additional support
• Assess fall risks and implement strategies to enhance home safety
• Educate patients and their families about the care plan, exercises, goals, and self-care techniques

Essential Qualifications for Home Health Occupational Therapists:

• Graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapy Program and possession of an active OT license in California
• A minimum of one year of occupational therapy experience, preferably in home healthcare settings
• Current CPR certification and any additional relevant certifications
• Familiarity with state and federal home health regulations
• Strong clinical judgment, excellent interpersonal skills, resourcefulness, and compassion
