Finance Director
$150k - $175kMSM North America
Position Summary
MSM North America is seeking a results-driven Finance Director to lead financial planning, government contract financial management, reporting, and financial operations within assigned business areas. This position works closely with program leadership and cross-functional teams to strengthen financial performance, maintain regulatory compliance, and provide financial insight that supports operational and business decisions.
The ideal candidate brings extensive finance experience within the defense contracting industry, strong knowledge of government contract accounting, and the ability to translate complex financial information into actionable recommendations. This individual will exercise independent judgment, provide financial oversight across programs and business functions, and contribute to the development of scalable financial processes that support continued organizational growth.
What You'll Do
- Lead financial planning and analysis. Direct budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities across programs and business functions, evaluating financial performance and providing recommendations to support operational priorities and business objectives.
- Oversee government contract financial management. Manage financial activities associated with government contracts, including program budgets, contract funding, cost performance, indirect rates, billing, revenue recognition, and financial reporting in accordance with applicable FAR and DFARS requirements.
- Drive financial performance. Evaluate program profitability, operating expenses, financial trends, and cost structures to identify risks, improvement opportunities, and corrective actions that strengthen business performance.
- Support strategic business decisions. Develop financial models, scenario analyses, and business cases to evaluate operational initiatives, investments, resource requirements, and business opportunities, providing recommendations to support leadership decisions.
- Support pricing and proposal development. Partner with Pricing, Contracts, and Program Management to develop and validate cost estimates, financial assumptions, indirect rate applications, and other financial inputs supporting government contract proposals and modifications.
- Oversee financial reporting and close activities. Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, support month-end and year-end close processes, and oversee reconciliations, financial analysis, and management reporting in accordance with GAAP and company requirements.
- Strengthen financial governance and compliance. Implement and maintain financial controls, reporting practices, cost allocation methodologies, and compliance processes to support adherence to GAAP, FAR, DFARS, and applicable Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).
- Support government and external audits. Coordinate financial documentation, analysis, and responses for DCAA, DCMA, and other internal or external audits, identifying potential compliance risks and recommending corrective actions.
- Partner across business functions. Collaborate with Program Management, Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Contracts to evaluate financial performance, assess operational challenges, and support effective resource and cost management.
- Develop financial reporting and executive insights. Prepare and present financial forecasts, performance assessments, key financial indicators, and management reports that provide meaningful analysis and recommendations to support business decisions.
- Improve financial systems and processes. Evaluate existing financial practices, identify opportunities to improve accuracy and efficiency, and implement scalable processes, reporting tools, and financial management capabilities, including effective utilization of Deltek Costpoint.
- Provide functional leadership. Establish financial priorities, provide technical guidance and oversight to finance personnel, and support the development of financial capabilities and team resources as the organization grows.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive finance or accounting experience, including significant experience within the defense or government contracting industry.
- Demonstrated experience leading financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and government contract financial management.
- Strong working knowledge of FAR, DFARS, government contract accounting, indirect cost structures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Comprehensive understanding of GAAP, financial controls, cost allocation methodologies, and financial reporting practices.
- Experience supporting government contract pricing, cost proposals, contract modifications, and program financial performance.
- Demonstrated ability to provide financial leadership, exercise independent judgment, and influence business decisions across functional teams.
- Strong analytical and financial modeling capabilities with the ability to interpret complex financial information and develop practical business recommendations.
- Experience communicating financial results, operational risks, and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, drive process improvements, and operate effectively with limited day-to-day supervision.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across all organizational levels.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience utilizing financial reporting, analysis, and enterprise resource planning systems.
A master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration; CPA or CMA certification; experience with Deltek Costpoint; and prior involvement in DCAA/DCMA audits or CAS-covered contracts are preferred. Experience leading or developing finance teams within a growing defense contracting organization is also desirable.
