Compensation: The total compensation range for this position is $90,000-100,000, depending on experience. Salaries at CFA represent inclusion of a $10,000 healthcare stipend. Who we are: The Committee for the First Amendment (1ACommittee) organizes the entertainment industry to fight assaults on the First Amendment, and to be a pillar of democracy. We believe that an organized, unified, and activated entertainment industry will prevent its capture and capitulation to rising authoritarianism. From the rank-and-file members who keep the entertainment industry running, to rising stars and global names, Committee members are entertainment professionals committed to defending the First Amendment for all. What we do: We work to inspire and mobilize the public to defend the First Amendment and advance democracy through: organizing within the entertainment industry; running strategic campaigns at key pressure points; and leveraging the talent of our membership to shift dominant narratives and move people to action. We are built and operated as a campaign, not a long-term institution. This will be a year-long contract with the possibility for extension. The position : This is an incredible opportunity to build 1ACommittee’s voice to boost our visibility and power. We are hiring an experienced and creative Content & Communications Specialist to join our nimble and dedicated team. This position will report to the Communications Director and be required to: Translate communications strategy and messaging into social, email, signal, web and other content that is polished, professional, and engaging. Maintain the editorial calendar with a campaign mindset , mapping out First Amendment news events, activation moments, amplification requests and more, coordinating with partner and member social media teams, scheduling posts for algorithmic optimization, tying all content back to our organizational strategies and calls to action. Create and publish visual and written content at volume , including 5-10 posts a week on social channels, direct-to-camera scripts for campaign videos, timely website updates, and regular email and Signal updates to members. Also contribute toother writing including press releases, talking points, and website copy as needed. Evaluate and prioritize collaboration requests and other incoming messages via social mediafrom partners and 1ACommittee members. Track 1ACommittee media mentions as a measure of impact, as well as tracking online news and discussion on First Amendment issues, including media and public figures to recruit as members, parallel campaigns by pro-democracy partners to amplify, and social media trends to leverage to reach larger audiences. Help maintain the 1ACommittee member database for communications and other uses, including adding notes, updating contact information, researching potential new members, and collaborating with the Organizer and other team members to build a rapid response system. Archive communications content for organizational records, including photos, videos, press statements, and more in our shared drives. Set ambitious yet achievable goals to maximize the Committee’s communications impact, with a commitment to evaluation, innovation, learning, and experimentation to progress in those goals. In addition to these primary responsibilities, all 1ACommittee team members: Build individual goals and contribute to strategies that increase our membership, with a particular focus on uplifting and developing rank and file members, BIPOC membership, young members, and queer and trans membership. All team members are accountable for responsibly stewarding Committee resources, tracking and processing reimbursements and expenses, completing and adhering to digital security practices, following all operating procedures,contributing to the administrative and digital health of the organization, and contributing to a culture of strategic stewardship of 1ACommittee resources. Represent 1ACommittee - our founder, members, and mission - with the highest standards of excellence, integrity, and commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace and world. Required skills and experience: The successful candidate will have some experience or skill in the following areas. If you are passionate about our work and feel you would be a good fit for this role, we’d like to hear from you even if you don’t meet every item on this list. At least 3 years’ experience owning the creation of simple graphics, social media posts, and/or public-facing written communications, with demonstrable skill creating polished, impactful graphics and writing persuasively for a public audience. An excellent writer who can move between social media, video script, and email “voices” with ease. Experience writing for traditional press, digital communications, and digital member communications. An eye for detail and consistent application of style guidelines Ability to use and navigate Google Suite , and a familiarity with basic digital security practices or a willingness to learn and adhere to the digital security practices of 1ACommittee. The ability to maintain discretion, confidentiality, and respect for all 1ACommittee members and team members. Comfort and willingness to manage administrative duties (e.g. maintaining records of communication; creating and maintaining archiving practices; submitting reimbursements in a timely fashion; adherence to shared organization of google drives and database, etc) alongside strategic communications work as an essential part of contributing to the success of the organization. Commitment to elevating the ideas, concerns, voices, and leadership of those historically marginalized or underrepresented in the entertainment industry, particularly people of color, queer and trans people, early-career artists, and working class people. Desirable skills and experience : A familiarity with some aspect of the entertainment industry. Demonstrated ability to create and maintain editorial calendars , with the flexibility to integrate rapid-response moments without losing sight of broader communications strategy. Demonstrated ability to craft and tell compelling stories across social media, member communications, and emails to constituents and incorporate a strong point of view across platforms, especially communications that include a compelling call to action to educate and activate the audience. Experience monitoring communications metrics to improve engagement and effectiveness. Demonstrated experience using design tools to create original digital content that is polished and impactful. Commitment to a culture of partnership and low ego/high impact approaches to the work. Willingness to have a “no job too small” approach to tasks, and to pitch in across titles and focus areas in times of rapid action. Accepts and provides feedback (positive and constructive) as a demonstrative part of continuous improvement. Ability to work independently and remotely and navigate competing priorities, with a drive to expand the reach and efficacy of all communications streams of work and flexibility to incorporate urgent, organically-developing actions without losing sight of the big picture. Location : This position can be based anywhere in the US, with a strong preference for LA or secondarily, NY. Some national travel (1-2/year) may be required. 1ACommittee is a remote-first organization (there are no regular, in person gatherings or office space). Salary and Benefits: All 1ACommittee team members are contract (1099) employees. 1ACommittee does not administer benefits or withhold taxes, and you will be responsible for managing this yourself. The salary for this position is between $80,000-90,000 dependent on experience, in addition to a $10,000 healthcare stipend for a total compensation package of $90,000-100,000. In an effort to increase equity, salaries are not negotiated outside of the published range. This is a full-time, 40h/week position with standard working hours 9-5 in your time zone. Organizing and campaign activities and 1ACommittee events may require work outside of standard hours, but team members are encouraged to make up this time in consultation with the Communications Director. Team members of the 1ACommittee receive generous paid vacation, including a week-long winter break (Dec 24-Jan 2) and 15 flexible vacation days per year. In addition to these vacation days, we observe all Federal holidays (12/year) and every staff member is entitled to 5 paid sick days per year. The work produced will not be used by 1ACommittee in any capacity beyond the interview process.
