Job Description

Job Summary:
Processes and sterilizes surgical and hospital instruments and equipment to ensure patient safety and optimal clinical outcomes. Supports surgical services by managing instrument sets, maintaining sterilization standards, and assisting with operating room functions.

Responsibilities:

• Decontaminates and processes surgical instruments, ensuring proper cleaning, assembling instrument sets, and accurately recording instrument counts.
• Sterilizes instruments, trays, and basins using appropriate exposure and drying times to maintain strict aseptic standards.
• Prepares instruments for immediate use sterilization when necessary for urgent procedures.
• Maintains a clean, organized departmental environment through daily cleaning of work surfaces, autoclave exterior, and high-disinfection equipment.
• Performs diagnostic testing on sterilization equipment, including biological indicators and cycle validation, to ensure proper functioning.
• Supports ancillary departments by providing reprocessing services for their instruments, including evaluating loaner instruments and maintaining related logs.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED required; Associate's/Technical Degree preferred.
• Minimum of two years recent experience in sterile processing or related field.
• Current BLS certification required.
• Sterile Processing Technician certification preferred.
• Knowledge of sterilization methods, instrument evaluation, and quality assurance practices.
• Ability to operate sterilization equipment and perform diagnostic tests accurately.
