More than 2,500 team members at more than 70 Tidelands Health locations bring our healing mission to life each day.A Brief Overview The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MT) performs chemical, histochemical, or morphological analysis on specimens using laboratory instrumentation and microscopes using company approved policies and procedures. The MT ensures quality of results and determines validity of reportable results. The Medical Laboratory Scientist acts as a resource person for physicians in laboratory testing.What You Will DoCollect, process, and handle blood and/or other biological specimens according to established procedures; instructs patients in the proper collection of samplesPerform a variety of clinical laboratory tests in the areas of hematology, microbiology, immunology, clinical chemistry, and urinalysis, as assigned; conducts quantitative and qualitative chemical analysis of body fluids such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid; performs blood counts using microscopeConduct blood tests for transfusion purposes; may draw blood from patient's finger, ear lobe, or vein observing principles of sepsis to obtain blood samplesDevelop and maintains cell/tissue cultures for testing purposes, as appropriate; isolates and identifies specimens, using advanced laboratory techniquesPerform quality control on test results, ensuring validity and accuracyPerform calibration and troubleshooting on testing systems and instruments to ensure adherence to established standards of accuracyKeep records and reports on results according to established proceduresEducation QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or Clinical/Medical Laboratory Science or a related field Required orEquivalent combination of post-secondary education and work experience (including comparable military training) in the field of Medical Laboratory Science.
