Expect to get together quarterly for intense in-person working sessions called “surges.” learn more about working at Coinbase.As a Staff Software Engineer on the Advanced Trading team within the Consumer & Business group, you'll build and scale the core systems that power crypto trading at Coinbase. The Advanced Trade team is building a seamless, secure trading platform for experienced traders, supporting multiple instrument types including Spot, Futures, and Perpetual Futures. You'll own critical backend infrastructure that demands high availability and high performance, tackling complex engineering challenges while contributing directly to Coinbase's core business. What you'll do: Own the design, development, and reliability of highly performant, highly available backend systems serving traders worldwide Build robust, extensible architecture that supports multiple instrument types (Spot, Futures, Perpetual Futures) and scales with growing demand Partner closely with Product and Design to translate product vision into best-in-class trading experiences Lead complex technical projects end-to-end, setting high standards for code quality, system design, and engineering rigor Strengthen the team by providing technical guidance and career mentorship to engineers across the subteam Drive high-value feature development from ideation through production, informed by customer needs and comprehensive observability Required Skills and Experience: 8+ years of backend software engineering experience, with demonstrated ownership of production services through multiple stages of growth and evolution Proven track record designing and scaling high-availability, low-latency distributed systems in a production environment Experience leading complex, multi-quarter technical projects as the senior technical anchor, including architecture decisions, trade-off analysis, and cross-team coordination Deep proficiency in at least one backend language (Golang preferred), with hands-on experience operating datastores such as MongoDB, Redis, or similar at scale Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, elevate team standards, and drive engineering culture improvements with measurable outcomes Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality. 76175 #LI-RemotePay Transparency Notice: Base salary varies by location (see range below).
