GhostRx is recruiting full-time Med-Surg ICU Registered Nurses to join the Phoenix VA Health Care System's Carl T. Hayden Veterans' Affairs Medical Center, a tertiary care teaching hospital in central Phoenix with a 24-hour Emergency Department, a 24-bed ICU, and inpatient medicine, surgery, and psychiatry services supporting Veterans across Arizona. Working 12-hour day or night tours (6:30AM - 7:00PM or 6:30PM - 7:00AM) in the 24-bed intensive care unit, you will manage critically ill medical and surgical Veterans on mechanical ventilation, vasoactive and sedation infusions, and continuous hemodynamic monitoring. Nurses with PICC line competency are especially sought for the day tour, where you will also serve as the unit's vascular access resource, placing and maintaining peripherally inserted central catheters using ultrasound guidance and tip confirmation technology.

Qualification and Requirements

• U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident (Green Card) status required to perform services under this federal contract

• Ability to read, write, and speak English well enough to communicate effectively with patients, families, and the care team; basic computer literacy required

• Active, current, and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in any U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth

• Graduate of an accredited BSN, ADN, or diploma nursing program with successful completion of the NCLEX-RN

• Minimum of 1 year of Med-Surg or critical care ICU RN experience within the preceding 3 years

• PICC line insertion training and current competency with ultrasound-guided placement strongly preferred (required for the PICC-designated day position); VA-BC or equivalent vascular access credential a plus

• Current ACLS certification required; CCRN preferred

• Experience with mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring, and titration of vasoactive and sedation infusions

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross

• Must pass a test-based clinical competency assessment prior to submission and provide professional references with current contact information

• Ability to successfully complete a federal background investigation, fingerprinting, and VA credentialing package, including primary-source license verification

• Documented immunizations and TB screening; annual privacy, information security, and bloodborne pathogen training required

• Willingness to complete orientation and unit training during day shift hours before transitioning to the assigned tour

• Ability to work 12-hour day or night tours, including weekends and federal holidays as scheduled

Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive critical care nursing to medical and surgical ICU Veterans, including ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, and titration of vasoactive, sedation, and insulin infusions

• For the PICC-designated position, insert, assess, maintain, and remove PICC lines and midlines using ultrasound guidance and tip confirmation in accordance with facility protocol and infection prevention standards

• Serve as a unit vascular access resource, consulting on line selection, troubleshooting occlusions, and educating staff on CLABSI prevention

• Perform frequent head-to-toe assessments, interpret lab and diagnostic results, and escalate deterioration to intensivists and the rapid response team

• Administer medications and blood products, manage central and arterial lines, and assist with bedside procedures such as intubation and line placement

• Collaborate with intensivists, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and case management during interdisciplinary rounds

• Support families of critically ill Veterans with education, updates, and end-of-life care when appropriate

• Float to other units within your competency and skill set when directed by nursing leadership

• Document care accurately and in real time in the VA electronic health record (CPRS/VistA) and communicate patient status changes during shift report

• Comply with VA and Joint Commission standards, infection control and safety policies, HIPAA and the Privacy Act, and all facility rules and procedures

• Complete required orientation, annual training, and competency validations and report to work as scheduled, including during emergencies or adverse weather
