Position Overview The Department Coordinator assists in planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating the clerical and support activities related to the efficient, day-to-day operations in the department. The role includes performing clerical and receptionist duties, maintaining the physical environment, and supporting the department staff with patient care activities as needed. Responsibilities Clerical and Operational Support: Prioritize departmental needs at the beginning of each shift. Schedule appointments, enter orders, and check in patients. Coordinate patient flow for the department. Order and maintain supplies and equipment at established levels. Complete required reporting, scheduling, and record‑keeping according to the organization’s compliance standards. Patient and Equipment Transport: Collect and transport specimens as needed according to MRMC standards. Transport patients using all safety measures. Communication and Reception: Answer telephone and intercom, identifying self and department. Receive and forward messages to appropriate personnel. Organizational Duties: Compile, maintain, retrieve old charts, and accurately update patient information in all necessary systems. Professional Development: Assist in orienting new staff to clerical duties. Maintain all required competencies for the role. Age‑Specific Competency: Apply knowledge of growth and development stages to patient care. Demonstrate age‑appropriate communication and support. Qualifications License/Certification/Education: Required: High School Diploma or equivalent. Preferred: Typing and Medical Terminology course or medical background. Experience/Skills: Preferred: Computer skills. Unless certification, licensure, or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the above requirements.
