Police Officer The City of Plymouth is looking for motivated professionals to uphold state and local laws, provide timely response and appropriate public safety services at all times and to demonstrate and maintain effective relations with the public. Plymouth Police Department has a long history of providing high‑quality service to our 82,000‑member community, and in return, the officers receive strong community support. PPD has an authorized staffing of 82 officers with ample opportunities for career enrichment and a culture of training resulting in an average of 100 hours of annual education for each officer. Respond to a wide variety of service calls, including domestic disputes, trespassing, disorderly conduct, intoxication, missing or found persons, traffic accidents, burglaries, and other incidents. Provide emergency services such as rescuing victims in life‑threatening situations, giving first‑aid, responding to non‑routine calls, and managing crowds at demonstrations or emergencies. Investigate suspicious circumstances by detaining and interviewing persons, observing potential trouble spots, and reporting public nuisances. Perform arrests, administer sobriety tests, transport arrested persons, and process booking, fingerprints, and lock‑up procedures. Conduct preliminary crime or accident investigations: search scenes, secure evidence, identify witnesses, and interview suspects. Support follow‑up investigations: assist investigators, take statements, serve warrants, and perform surveillance. Identify and report physical and safety hazards such as abandoned vehicles, broken utilities, or construction sites, and arrange for removal. Enforce traffic laws by writing citations, patrolling for violations, and participating in pursuits. Perform routine patrols: plan routes, conduct foot patrols, collect license information, assist motorists, process lost or found property, guard prisoners, and appear in court as witness. Execute administrative and non‑patrol activities such as maintaining records, reporting, and training participation. Minimum Qualifications Demonstrated ability to perform in accordance with the City of Plymouth’s CIVIC values and support the Council’s strategic priorities. Must be eligible for licensure under Minnesota Board of Peace Officers Standards and Training by the start date. Effective written and oral communication skills. Valid Minnesota driver’s license without recent significant traffic violations. Pass a thorough background investigation. Pass required physical and psychological examinations. Desired Qualifications Experience working with diverse populations. Physical Requirements Very frequent (often required) activities: standing, sitting, walking, lifting, pushing/pulling, carrying, kneeling, crawling, crouching, reaching, handling objects, repetitive hand motion, and stationary desk or bench work with neck bent forward. Frequent activities: climbing, extended use of arm muscles, overhead work over shoulder height. Weights lifted or carried: must lift items from 0–100 pounds within 0–5 ft and carry items up to 100 pounds within 0–100 ft, including duty bag, briefcase, injured children, or adults, first‑aid kit with oxygen bottle, evidence, or found property.
