School-Based Physical Therapist (Pediatric)

Location: Elmira City School District (Elmira, NY) Schedule Options: Full-time, 10-month (summers off) or 12-month

This is an exciting opportunity for a Physical Therapist specializing in pediatric care to have a significant impact in a school environment. You will work closely with students to enhance their physical abilities and engagement in daily school activities, within a structured schedule and a collaborative team.

Your Role

Assess students, devise personalized treatment plans, and administer therapeutic interventions following best practices in Physical Therapy. You will collaborate with a diverse team and report to the Clinical Coordinator of Rehab Services.

What You'll Do

• Evaluate therapy referrals and analyze students' physical requirements
• Create and execute treatment plans incorporating therapeutic exercises, gait training, and other techniques
• Instruct on the proper usage of mobility aids and adaptive equipment
• Monitor progress and adjust treatments as necessary
• Coordinate with healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care
• Complete all essential documentation accurately
• Supervise rehab support staff as needed
• Maintain safety protocols and equipment standards
• Contribute to quality initiatives and professional development activities
• Provide assistance with student transport and coverage for senior therapists
• Attend continuous education and training sessions
• Deliver appropriate care to diverse populations

Qualifications

• Hold licensure (or eligibility) as a Physical Therapist in New York State
• Obtain BLS certification within 90 days of employment
• Previous experience in a hospital or acute care setting is advantageous

Physical Requirements

• Engage in moderate to significant physical activity, including lifting and pushing
• Ability to lift 30 lbs independently and up to 150 lbs with assistance

Safety & Infection Control

• May encounter Category II exposure (blood/body fluids)
• Adherence to universal precautions and safety guidelines
