Certified Drug & Alcohol Counselor

Job Title

Under the administrative supervision of the Program Director or designee, this position is responsible for providing psychosocial, rehabilitation, and recovery-oriented services for adults.

This is an at-will direct service position within a program. The position is responsible for counseling and aiding clients and families requiring assistance in dealing with substance abuse problems, such as alcohol or drug abuse. Functions as a Personal Service Coordinator for a case load of dually diagnosed clients.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

• Assisting clients in identifying and progressing toward their chosen goals.
• Advocating for clients in all areas of treatment and helping them apply for and receive services.
• Providing prompt intervention in the event of a crisis, both to stop the crisis and to notify, when indicated, persons and agencies necessary for the resolution of the situation.
• Interviewing clients, reviewing records, and conferring with other professionals.
• Formulating a program for the treatment and rehabilitation of clients, including facilitation of support groups.
• Counseling clients individually and in group sessions to assist clients in overcoming alcohol and drug dependency.
• Counseling family members to assist the family in dealing with and providing client support.
• Referring clients to other support services as needed, such as medical evaluation and treatment, social services, and employment services.
• Monitoring the condition of the client to evaluate the success of therapy, and adapting treatment as needed.
• Preparing and maintaining reports and case histories.
• Formulating and conducting programs to promote the prevention of alcohol and drug abuse.
• Safely transporting clients and other passengers to and from appointments and activities, and other program business relevant to the position using own personal vehicle.
• Driving on agency business using personal vehicle; may be required to transport clients, equipment, protected health information (PHI), and/or confidential personnel or TPCP agency information.
• Providing support and training for other staff members as needed.
• Adhering to and upholding the policies and procedures of Turning Point Community Programs.
• Attending staff meetings unless approval for non-attendance is secured from the Team Leader or Program Director.

Minimum qualifications and certifications:

• Education, Training, and Experience: A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined above is through the possession of a CADAC license and varied experience working with dually diagnosed adults (substance abuse and psychiatric disability).
• Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements: Valid CADAC license California driver's license & current vehicle insurance/registration if driving; and, Reliable means of transportation capable of passing vehicle safety inspection if more than five years old, excluding all modes of two-wheeled transport, inclusive of bicycles, mopeds, and motorcycles.

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Compensation: $24.00 - $25.98 hourly.
