Bankruptcy Compliance Specialist V

Overview The Colorado Department of Revenue (CDOR) partners with residents and businesses to navigate complex government processes, emphasizing service, teamwork, accountability, integrity, and respect. Responsibilities Review all bankruptcy cases filed in Colorado and other states with nexus in Colorado, including foreign cases with dealings in Colorado. Prepare and file accurate Proof of Claims with all bankruptcy courts. Monitor and enforce approved Colorado bankruptcy plans, attending 341 hearings and clarifying the department’s position when necessary. Testify in court cases and refer matters to the Attorney General’s office as required. Prioritize cases to determine appropriate enforcement actions. Supervise three Bankruptcy Compliance Specialists and one Tax Examiner II, providing clear expectations, support, and performance feedback. Manage departmental resources to meet production goals—proof of claims filed, 341 meetings attended, discharges/dismissals processed, and mail handled. Assist Compliance Specialists and the Tax Examiner II with their work and review submitted case work regularly. Meet with attorneys at the Attorney General’s office regarding complex cases requiring monitoring. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Eight (8) years of relevant experience in Bankruptcy Taxation, Bankruptcy Code, 341 Hearings, and management; or a combination of related education (Business, Accounting, Computer Science, Economics, Finance, or related fields) and eight (8) years of relevant experience. Preferred Qualifications: Minimum two years of experience working with Bankruptcy Taxation cases. Strong understanding of the Bankruptcy Code with experience interpreting and applying it to Colorado tax matters. Minimum two years of experience filing Bankruptcy proof of claims documents. Experience representing the Department of Revenue at 341 Hearings. Strong written communication skills. Advanced skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, and the Fast Enterprise GenTax system. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to collaborate with subject matter experts and attorneys. Remote Work Position is remote; weekly visits to the CDOR Howard Office (2829 W. Howard Pl., Denver, CO 80204) are required. Applicants must reside in the Denver Metro Area. Conditions of Employment Employees are public trust holders, must file all Colorado Individual Income Tax returns and maintain compliance with state tax obligations, and will undergo background investigation and reference checks. A valid driver’s license and a safe driving record may be required for positions involving state vehicle use.
