Counselor II / 2nd Shift / 988 Call Center (Charleston)

We are seeking to fill three (3) Counselor II positions for the 988 Lifeline program on 2nd Shift with individuals who are motivated to help individuals and families navigate life's challenges and achieve long-term wellness. This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Charleston Dorchester Mental Health Center, 2125 Charlie Hall Blvd, Charleston, SC 29414. As a Counselor for 988 you will be under close supervision of the Team Leader. Answer incoming crisis calls and provide telephonic crisis intervention services to include text, chat, screening and consultation in a culturally competent manner for the 988 Suicide Lifeline. Responsibilities Provide a quality response ... culturally competent manner to callers of the 988 Lifeline. Identify concerns with mental illness, developmental disabilities and/or substance use and refer to the appropriate resources. Utilize assessment information and community resources to provide information and/or linkage and referral to services. Be knowledgeable of and accountable for documentation expectations. Demonstrate recognition of the importance of collaboration and teamwork within the Center and the community. Operate in an efficient and organized manner. Retain overall responsibility for meeting Quality Assurance standards. Comply with all OMH/CDMHC policies and protocols, applicable Quality Assurance, Corporate Compliance, Cultural Competence, and CARF policies, procedures and regulations and all Federal and State laws as well as attend all training classified as mandatory by Federal and State regulations. Qualifications A bachelor's degree in guidance, counseling, or the social sciences and professional experience in human services or social services programs. Additional Requirements This is an essential position and may require some afterhours work to help fill in when staff are out and/or position could be designed for after hours or weekends. Experience in the crisis continuum of care a plus. Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus. Post-Hire Responsibilities Have working knowledge of Mental Health legal principles and practices. Have good listening skills, ability to multitask, remain calm in a crisis, have good writing skills. Be able to screen, assess and consult with callers. Have working knowledge of basic health and welfare services provided by other agencies. Be able to effectively plan, coordinate and manage complex treatment and to the ability to conduct detailed investigations, draw conclusions and recommend required actions.
