Job Description

• The Firewatch supports refurbishment activities by assisting skilled trades personnel and closely monitoring welding operations to prevent fire hazards. This role involves handling materials and tools, maintaining clean work areas, and staying alert and focused throughout the shift in a dynamic repair facility environment.

Responsibilities

• Support all functional areas involved in LCAC refurbishment efforts.
• Pick, handle, and organize materials, parts, and tools to support daily operations.
• Serve as an assistant to ship fitters, mechanics, electricians, and welders as directed.
• Continuously observe welders while they work to identify and respond to potential fire hazards.
• Maintain a high level of attention to detail when monitoring sparks, slag, and surrounding materials during welding activities.

Essential Skills

• Strong attention to detail, with the ability to closely monitor welding activities for potential fire risks.
• Ability to stay focused and alert for the entire shift while performing firewatch duties.
• General mechanical aptitude and comfort working around mechanical, construction, and refurbishment activities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with mechanical work, construction, or general labor is beneficial.
• Familiarity with hand tools, drills, and basic carpentry tasks is a plus.
• Experience assisting trades such as ship fitters, mechanics, electricians, or welders is advantageous.
• Ability to maintain cleanliness and organization in work and office areas.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Oceanside, CA.

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
