Senior UX Researcher

To support a short-term discovery project with a state government client, the Senior UX Researcher will conduct in-depth research on a complex permitting system, focusing on user navigation and experience, while working remotely on a contract basis for up to 40 hours per week. Key responsibilities Plan and execute discovery research across diverse user groups, including agency staff and external users Conduct field research and observational sessions to document user experiences and identify pain points Synthesize research findings into reports, personas, and actionable recommendations for agency leadership Required qualifications Demonstrated experience in discovery research on complex, multi-stakeholder systems with relevant work samples or case studies Proficiency in field and observational research methods, beyond remote interviews Experience producing service blueprints, journey maps, or process flows Ability to translate raw research into strategic decisions for executives and technical teams Familiarity with government, regulatory, or permitting research is a plus
