Senior Backend Engineer - Core & Data Engine

Salary: $106,277.25 - 165,000 per year Requirements:

• We need 8+ years of professional software development experience in object-oriented languages, with C#/.NET required.
• We need expert-level SQL Server 2019 knowledge, including advanced query optimization, execution plan analysis, index tuning, and query hints.
• We need hands-on experience with stored procedure, function, and trigger development or refactoring.
• We need strong database design and normalization skills.
• We need proven performance-tuning experience at scale, including multi-million-row tables, complex joins, and aggregations.
• We need a solid understanding of indexing strategies, including clustered, non-clustered, filtered, and columnstore indexes.
• We need familiarity with SQL Agent jobs and automated workflow patterns.
• We need knowledge of transaction isolation levels, locking, and concurrency management.
• We need experience with both C# and .NET Framework/.NET Core in legacy and modern environments.
• We need experience improving established systems while preserving production stability.
• We need SQL source control experience, including schema and stored procedure versioning.
• Preferred experience includes strangler fig, anti-corruption layer, and facade patterns.
• Preferred experience includes migrating logic from stored procedures into a service layer in production environments.
• Preferred familiarity with domain-driven design concepts such as bounded contexts, aggregates, and repositories.
• Preferred experience with Azure SQL Database and Azure DevOps.
• Preferred exposure to observability tools such as Application Insights and SQL Profiler.
• Preferred experience in API design and versioning using REST and OpenAPI/Swagger.
• Preferred experience with unit testing frameworks such as xUnit or NUnit, plus test data builder patterns.
• Preferred scripting and automation experience with PowerShell.
• Preferred familiarity with microservices and event-driven architecture.
• Preferred knowledge of Entity Framework Core, Dapper, or similar ORMs, including when to use native SQL.

• We analyze, optimize, and break apart complex stored procedures into smaller, testable, well-documented components.
• We tune SQL performance by refining queries, indexes, execution plans, and data access patterns.
• We design backward-compatible schema changes with safe rollout and rollback approaches.
• We build migration seams such as facades, wrappers, and anti-corruption layers to gradually move business logic into services.
• We refactor .NET Framework code that supports DPS workflows into maintainable, testable modules.
• We apply strangler fig patterns to shift logic from the database service layer while keeping production stable.
• We create domain-aligned modules and services with clear contracts to support further capability extraction.
• We establish patterns for dependency injection, observability, and error handling in mature .NET codebases.
• We implement performance baselines, regression detection, and alerting for data-heavy workflows.
• We support incident response for production issues related to data and performance.
• We create diagnostic tools and runbooks to shorten resolution times.
• We partner with SRE and DevOps on deployment safety practices such as blue/green releases, feature flags, and canary deployments for schema changes.
