Job Summary Dominion Energy is seeking a System Protection Intern for Summer 2027 at Surry Nuclear Power Station in Surry, VA. This internship offers a hands‑on opportunity to gain real‑world experience in the field of power generation, electric transmission and distribution. Interns will work closely with System Protection Technicians to develop a foundational understanding of substation electrical equipment, high‑voltage diagnostic testing, protective relays, and control circuit troubleshooting. This role is ideal for students interested in fieldwork and technical operations, with the potential for full‑time employment upon successful completion of the internship and alignment with Dominion Energy’s culture and career pathways. Key Responsibilities: Review and interpret electrical design drawings. Assist with infrared scans and basic instrument checkout and repair. Participate in high‑voltage diagnostic testing and relay testing. Support functional testing of protection systems and control circuits. Shadow System Protection Technicians to gain insight into substation equipment and field operations. Required Skills and Physical Requirements: Strong problem‑solving skills with mechanical and/or electrical equipment and control circuits. Experience with Microsoft Office applications. Solid math, technical, and mechanical aptitude. Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Good time management and organizational skills. Must meet physical requirements including: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Manual dexterity, color vision, hearing, climbing, stooping, standing, and bending. Education Requirements Must be enrolled at a 2‑year or 4‑year school pursuing a Bachelors or Associate's Technology degree in the preferred areas of: Electrical & Electronic Engineering Technology Mechanical Engineering Technology Electromechanical Technology Electronics Technology Instrumentation Technology Mechatronic Technology Other comparable disciplines may be substituted for the disciplines listed above; Must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher. Must have an anticipated graduation date of Fall 2027 or later. Due to weight limits on equipment, weight restriction of 290 pounds applies.
