This role provides exemplary leadership by driving company culture and strategies, achieving targeted results, championing exceptional pet parent service and efficient execution of the store’s daily business while upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. Essential Responsibilities Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, and may vary by store characteristics and needs: People Leadership Responsible for employment decisions such as recruiting, interviewing, hiring, coaching, and terminating. Builds an open-door culture by engaging and listening to associates. Leverages the Voice of Associate tool to listen to and respond to feedback. Accountable for creating and posting the store schedule after input from Experience and Process Leader. Facilitates associate experience and development, including reviews, recognition, team activities, labor management, training, onboarding, mentoring and succession planning. Delegates effectively and empowers others to succeed; encourages ownership for results. Cascades information to associates and adjusts priorities to meet goals. Ensures alignment and adapts to changing environment. Addresses and administers associate complaints and grievances. Recognizes and celebrates associates driving engagement. Ensures all associate reviews are delivered on time. Overall Store Experience Leads the associate and pet parent experience; ensures pets in care are safe and healthy. Accountable for pet parent experience and outcomes via phone, in person, or online; addresses general and escalated concerns. Builds a store environment focused on delivering exceptional experiences for pet parents and associates. Evaluates operations and seeks opportunities to improve processes and services. Collaborates with Store Leadership to ensure efficient in-store and community event outcomes (including local adoption groups). Maintains store standards and compliance with policies, procedures, and code of ethics. Conducts monthly Core and Services Walks to validate policy execution. Prioritizes a safe environment for associates, pets, and pet parents. Ensures inventory management tools maintain appropriate stock levels. Communicates business and financial objectives to leaders and associates. Monitors in-store cameras to assess safety and coaching needs; follows up with accountability as appropriate. Takes action for sick/injured pets and coordinates veterinary transport as needed. Partners in opening and closing procedures to uphold brand promise. Business Management Delivers corporate strategy and profitability goals by executing leadership direction. Analyzes reporting, identifies root causes, and creates improvement plans; communicates results to leaders and staff. Identifies opportunities to grow the business; holds associates accountable for achieving store P&L targets. Manages expenses such as labor and supplies; leverages home office resources for store-related work orders and purchasing. Creates and posts store schedules; processes payroll weekly within budget. Executes required reporting and paperwork; runs store-related errands as needed. Qualifications 4-6 years of retail leadership or experience in a customer-focused environment. Full-time availability; flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Proficiency in computer applications. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Supervisory Responsibility Typically oversees the Experience Leader and Process Leader, up to six lead associates and ten to seventy non-leader associates, following PetSmart policies and procedures. Physical Demands and Work Environment Stand, walk, climb, and use hands; required vision abilities; reasonable accommodations available. Lift up to 50 pounds frequently; may lift more than 100 pounds with team assistance. Exposure to moving parts, pet hair, and variable noise; exposure to live animals common.
