Job Profile Summary This role focuses on using various imaging techniques and practices to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. It describes a clinical technologist role with specialized knowledge or skills gained through a combination of vocational education, training, and experience. This role is commonly applied to patient care and/or scientific/laboratory jobs. It is an experienced level role requiring basic knowledge of procedures and tools obtained through work experience and vocational or technical education. Works under moderate supervision, handling routine problems and sometimes requiring interpretation or deviation from standard procedures and the ability to explain information. Job Overview This position is responsible for facilitating and overseeing activities of students in the Medical Radiography Program. It requires performing radiologic procedures on assigned patients according to department and hospital policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives. Procedures should follow radiological standards in a safe, accurate, and timely manner, meet the American College of Radiology (ACR) imaging standards, and enable radiologists and/or physicians to make a radiological diagnosis. Responsible for designated areas and/or procedures as assigned. Work cooperatively within departments and other service lines to support quality health care. Job Description Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in Radiology or related field. Radiologic Technologist Certification (ARRT). Radiologic Technologist state license or license eligible. Four (4) years of experience as a Radiologic Technologist. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree. Five (5) years of experience as a Radiologic Technologist. Two (2) years of experience in a Radiology educational role Duties and Responsibilities In coordination with the Medical Radiography Program Director, serve as the classroom clinical instructor / preceptor / supervisor for students. In cooperation and consultation with the Medical Radiography Program Director, follow the program curriculum plan, develop, implement the daily, weekly and semester classes and clinical rotation schedules for students. Following the Program's established clinical curriculum, perform appropriate evaluation and clinical competency performance assessments on assigned students and assure adequate availability of appropriate clinical cases for students to achieve stated clinical goals and objectives. Organize and implement department policy / procedure orientation sessions for assigned students and appropriate Program faculty. Provide input on the progress of all assigned students toward achievement of their class or clinical performance goals and objectives and assist in filling out student evaluations online. Oversee assigned students' maintenance of their clinical activity log sheets and provide clinical activity summary data. Provide input on issues which may be useful in enhancing the student's educational experience in class or at their site -and-/or- in facilitating student success. Act as liaison between the Imaging Department and the Medical Radiography Program. Provide academic advice for matriculating and prospective program students. Coordinate and manage the in-service program for students and staff. Under the direction of the Director, acts as trainer and mentor for all new hires in the department. Perform radiologic procedures on patients as assigned according to policy and radiological standards. Verify patient and procedure to be performed. Provide clear and accurate instructions to patients. Verify and perform correct imaging protocol, step, procedures, and scanner parameters for each patient. Ensure patient and staff safety for equipment used. Participate in ongoing education and training. Perform quality control on equipment and devices as required. Communicate with other staff/departments to coordinate care of patients. Maintain supply stock and request stock to be ordered when necessary. Keep all work areas clean and functional according to DPH and The Joint Commission. Physical Requirements Ability to transport patients (including aggressive ones) from wheelchair or patient slide board to table. Ability to move portable x-ray machine to examination site. Occasionally sitting, frequently standing, walking, and lifting 30-35 lbs. Ability to wear protective lead aprons and lead gloves during examinations. Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation to operate radiology equipment. Hearing and visual acuity sufficient to perform examinations; observe patients, read monitors and documents, and hear audible equipment alarms. Skills & Abilities Interpersonal skills needed to work with and support faculty, staff, and students. Teaching abilities in the clinical settings. Knowledge of radiographic equipment, examinations, and procedures that require contrast agents. Knowledge of patient transfers and positioning techniques. Knowledge of radiographic equipment operation and radiation safety. Ability to organize responsibilities, make decisions, and demonstrate critical thinking skills. #J-18808-Ljbffr
