Payroll Clerk

The Payroll Clerk is to provide payroll and benefits support and ensure the prompt and accurate processing of all payroll related transactions.

Preferred qualifications include a minimum of three (3) years payroll processing experience, MSBO payroll certification or willingness to pursue certification, type 50 words per minute, including statistical typing, pass District payroll test, prior experience with District and RESA computer systems, specifically SMART, and strong experience in Excel.

Preferred skills include the ability to maintain strict confidentiality, ability to relate well with other people, ability to multitask, and consistent background of minimal financial errors.

Major duties and responsibilities include receiving, maintaining, recording, and processing wage and salary information of all employees for the production of payroll executed through a computer program, receiving and computing all deductions for income tax, ORS retirement, insurance, annuities/403b, etc., including preparing necessary reports and checks for deductions in a timely manner, maintaining a record of salaries, wages, hours worked, payroll deductions, authorized voluntary contributions and dependency records for all personnel, preparing all tax forms relating to payroll, accurately applying contractual controls over payroll; refer and review irregularities and conflicts with Directors of Finance/Human Resources, maintaining all payroll registers and related payroll documentation for record-keeping purposes and providing such information to auditors, as required, verifying all amounts before and after checks are computer processed, computing wage reports for retirement, unemployment compensation, etc., assisting in handling unemployment claims, daily review of certified substitute requests and follow-up in absence reporting system; reconciliation of substitute payroll, participating in weekly team meetings with human resources dept, and performing other tasks as assigned by the Director of Finance.
