Part-time Assistant Women's Soccer Coach

The part‑time assistant coach for Women’s Soccer is responsible for assisting the head Women’s Soccer coach in implementing and directing all phases of a competitive NCAA DivisionIII Women’s Soccer program at DePauw University. Responsibilities include recruiting quality student‑athletes, organizing and planning practices and game strategies, scouting, coaching, scheduling, budgeting, and planning team travel in compliance with University, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations. Essential Functions Understand and comply with NCAA DivisionIII conference and University rules and regulations. Demonstrate sportsmanship and ethical conduct. Demonstrate sensitivity to individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds and a commitment to a diverse community. Along with the head coach, implement and execute a comprehensive recruiting plan for the identification and recruitment of qualified student‑athletes, and maintain an acceptable roster per the University. Along with the head coach, develop and implement plans and strategies for practices and competition that result in athletics success. Mentor student athletes to ensure athletics and academic success. At the direction of the head coach, make transportation and lodging arrangements for team travel. Administer a fiscally sound athletics program. At the direction of the head coach, evaluate program effectiveness. At the direction of the head coach, monitor student‑athletes’ academic progression. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics or head Women’s soccer coach. Competencies Accountability – Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions. Training – Ability to develop a particular skill in others to bring them up to a predetermined standard of work performance. Position Qualifications Education: High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree highly preferred. Experience: Collegiate playing experience in soccer highly desirable. Experience coaching goalies highly desirable. Must maintain certification in first aid/CPR/AED throughout entire appointment. Communication/Language: Basic – Ability to read, listen to and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write and communicate simple correspondence. Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Computer Skills: Microsoft Office Suite, Internet, Google Apps, Teamworks, and other programs as determined by specific sport responsibilities. Certificates & Licenses: A valid U.S. driver’s license is required. Certification in first aid/CPR/AED is required by first date of appointment and must be maintained throughout appointment. Other Requirements: Excellent communication skills. Commitment to and history of strong belief in mentoring students and demonstrated experience working with young adults. Desire to work in a rural, small‑school environment devoted to providing liberal arts education, building community, and helping students prepare for their future careers. Physical Demands Requires frequent standing, walking, and occasional lifting up to 100 lbs. During practice and season, coach may stand or walk 3–6 hours per day. Office duties during off‑season include sitting, handling documents, and using a computer. May require presence in athletic and recreational facilities, both indoors and outdoors. Work Environment The assistant coach will work in a traditional office environment and will also spend time in athletic and recreational facilities, both indoors and outdoors. Work may involve exposure to ambient temperature, humidity and extreme heat or cold. Coach will perform office tasks during off‑season and coaching tasks during season.
