Area Chief of Staff

The salary range for this position is $129,000 to $185,000 per year. Area Chief of Staff: lead, develop and manage associate veterinarians in hospitals to attract, develop, engage and retain doctors, ensuring quality care and meeting performance measures. Drive culture, quality and safety, optimize client experience, associate engagement and hospital performance. Responsibilities Lead quality initiatives and drive a culture of safety at the hospital level, ensuring alignment with Banfield’s six domains of quality (safe, effective, patient‑centered, timely, efficient, equitable). Conduct regular hospital visits, audits and performance reviews to maintain compliance with industry, regulatory and internal quality standards. Recruit, interview, onboard and train new associate and locum veterinarians; provide ongoing coaching and mentorship. Partner with the Director of Veterinary Quality, Regional P&O Co‑Pilot, and Practice Manager to identify, develop and retain veterinary talent for leadership roles. Manage medical equipment inventory, maintenance and calibration, ensuring functionality and compliance with supplier and regulatory standards. Maintain hospital operations in compliance with local, state and federal regulations, including controlled substance management and radiation safety. Represent Banfield in local, state and national veterinary organizations to promote brand reputation and cultivate professional relationships. Provide additional support as assigned by senior leadership. Qualifications Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree. Active veterinary license in good standing, or eligibility for licensure with a state board. Minimum 3 years of experience in small‑animal medicine and surgery practice. Proficiency in basic surgical procedures and use of standard medical instruments. Strong leadership, conflict management, decision making and communication skills. Ability to multitask, organize, prioritize, and solve complex problems. Proficiency with computer software relevant to veterinary practice. Willingness to work weekends, evenings and occasional overtime; ability to travel to support other area hospitals. Must obtain state Controlled Substance and federal DEA certification within 3 months of employment. USDA accreditation in accordance with the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. Special Working Conditions Ability to work around pets of various species and sizes. Physical demands: standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Good hand‑eye coordination, finger‑hand‑arm dexterity and visual acuity for keyboard and equipment use. Exposure to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards and controlled substances.
