Master Police Officer I-III (Pool) This is a pooled job posting for Master Officer I, Master Officer II, and Master Officer III positions. Enforce all applicable federal, state, and local laws, as well as university rules and regulations. Patrol and secure the grounds of Ncucap. Respond to calls and/or complaints, perform preliminary investigations of criminal and conduct incidents, record and refer complaints, and complete and file reports on all incidents. Responsibilities and Duties Knowledge of criminal and traffic laws for regular enforcement of criminal and traffic violations. Knowledge of investigative techniques and case preparation requirements for routine traffic and criminal cases. Knowledge of standard law enforcement equipment, its care, and safe use. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access). Community policing and ability to complete the Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Program and become certified by the State of North Carolina. Work independently with little or no supervision, taking initiative to see projects and assignments through to completion. Interpret and analyze information to make necessary decisions; exercise judgment and discretion in problem solving. Plan, prioritize, and organize workflow with flexible schedules. Excellent analytical, organizational, written, and oral communication skills. Great interpersonal skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of individuals in a high‑pressure environment. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The successful candidate must possess a working knowledge of criminal and traffic laws; investigative techniques; standard law enforcement equipment; Microsoft Office applications; community policing; and BLET certification. Ability to work independently, exercise judgment, plan, prioritize, organize workflow, and maintain excellent communication skills. Interpersonal skills for interacting with a wide range of individuals in a high‑pressure environment. Minimum Qualifications Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED and 6 years experience as a sworn local, state or federal law‑enforcement officer. An advanced degree (JD, Masters, Doctorate) reduces the minimum experience requirement by one year. Current certification from NC CJETSC as a commissioned police officer or certification eligible within an agency specified timeframe. Licenses or Certification Required Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record. Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission (valid BLET certification). For certification from another state or expired NC certification, satisfactory completion of BLET portions as required by NC Criminal Justice and Training Commissions on the first scheduled offering.
