Lead Mainframe Infrastructure Engineer

Salary: $61,000 - 101,000 per year Requirements:

• We require formal training or certification in software engineering concepts, along with 5+ years of applied experience.
• We are looking for 10+ years of experience operating and managing IBM z-Series environments.
• We need demonstrated leadership of Operational and SRE teams in a 24x7 support setting, including full people-management responsibilities.
• We expect a solid understanding of infrastructure architecture, including servers, storage, network, database, and application components.
• We require extensive knowledge of replication technologies such as IBM CSM and GDPS.
• We need expertise in administering z-Series and Hardware Management Console (HMC) platforms, including firmware and microcode upgrades.
• We expect a strong understanding of security standards, working knowledge of SSH protocol, and familiarity with transaction-based systems such as IMS, CICS, DB2, and WebSphere.
• We require experience managing ServiceNow, including workflow, ticket, and resolution management across a global 24x7 environment.
• We need demonstrated expertise in incident, problem, and change management processes and procedures.
• We expect the ability to troubleshoot priority incidents, facilitate blameless post-mortems, and ensure lasting closure of issues.
• We require experience using enterprise-authorized AI capabilities to support infrastructure engineering workflows, with strong validation habits and awareness of data sensitivity.
• We need the ability to review and validate AI-assisted recommendations before implementation, escalate when uncertain, and ensure outcomes align with resiliency, security, and auditability expectations.
• Preferred: working knowledge of one or more general-purpose programming languages and/or automation scripting.
• Preferred: practical experience with Python development.
• Preferred: knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering practices for designing, coding, testing, and delivering software to automate manual operational work.
• Preferred: knowledge of batch scheduling tools such as CA-7, Control-M, and Zeke, plus a good working knowledge of JCL.
• Preferred: familiarity with Netcool support in a large-scale environment.
• Preferred: demonstrated ability to engage with IBM z-Series Engineering L3/L4/Build teams on architecture, development, stability, and continuous improvement.

• We host and participate in bridge calls and communicate effectively with large groups at all levels.
• We administer and troubleshoot mainframe-related components.
• We work collaboratively in large teams to achieve organizational goals.
• We use enterprise-authorized AI capabilities to accelerate infrastructure analysis and design documentation, while validating outputs and handling operational data according to sensitivity and security requirements.
• We apply reuse-first, AI-assisted practices in delivery and automation routines to identify recurring issues and validate remediation options, ensuring changes are traceable, auditable, and aligned with resiliency and security expectations.
