Staff Software Engineer -Lab Automation

Staff Software Engineer specializing in laboratory automation and AI-enabled solutions at Thermo Fisher Scientific. Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership and architectural direction for instrument-control software and laboratory automation platforms
Design automation frameworks that orchestrate instruments, robotics, and software services with state management and fault recovery
Integrate AI-enabled capabilities for intelligent troubleshooting, workflow assistance, anomaly detection, and context-aware automation
Develop AI-driven automation that combines instrument state and operational data to generate workflows and respond to exceptions
Collaborate across engineering, product management, applications, and customer-facing teams to address technical needs

Requirements

Advanced degree with 6+ years software development OR bachelor's degree with 8+ years experience
Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field
Advanced proficiency in Python, Java, or C++ with production-quality system delivery experience
Experience developing software for scientific instruments, laboratory automation, robotics, or hardware-controlled systems
Proficiency with instrument-control frameworks such as .NET/WPF, WinUI, Qt, or comparable technologies
Experience integrating instruments via vendor SDKs, REST APIs, TCP/IP, OPC UA, or similar communication protocols
Strong grasp of software architecture, object-oriented design, design patterns, and hardware abstraction

Compensation: $129,400–$175,000 base
