Functional Academics Teacher

Role Description The Functional Academics Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering instruction that supports students in acquiring essential academic, daily living, and vocational skills aligned with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This full‑time, on‑site role in Allen, TX involves designing differentiated lessons, implementing evidence‑based instructional strategies, and adapting materials to meet the needs of students with diverse learning profiles. The teacher collaborates regularly with families, campus staff, and related service providers to support student progress, participates in ARD/IEP meetings, and maintains accurate documentation of goals, accommodations, and performance data. Daily responsibilities include classroom management, ongoing assessment, integration of functional life skills into academic content, and support for inclusion in general education settings when appropriate. The role also includes participation in professional development, adherence to district policies and state regulations, and contribution to a positive, respectful school culture. Qualifications Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver differentiated instruction in functional academics, including literacy, numeracy, daily living, and vocational readiness skills. Experience working with students receiving special education services, including implementing IEPs, accommodations, behavior supports, and progress monitoring. Strong classroom management, organization, and time‑management skills to maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment. Effective communication and collaboration skills for engaging with students, families, campus staff, and multidisciplinary teams. Proficiency with educational technology and tools used for lesson delivery, documentation, and data collection. Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field; valid Texas teaching certification with appropriate special education endorsement (or eligibility to obtain).
