Defense Investigator Location: USA VA Arlington Full/Part Time: Full time Job Req: RQ221664 Type of Requisition: Regular Clearance Level Must Currently Possess: Top Secret/SCI Clearance Level Must Be Able to Obtain: Top Secret/SCI Public Trust/Other Required: None Job Family: Intelligence Operations and Analysis Job Qualifications Skills: Case Investigations, Collaboration, Criminal Defense, Criminal Investigations, Researching Certifications: None Experience: 5+ years of related experience US Citizenship: Required Job Description Defense Investigator – responsible for supporting defense counsel in the Office of Military Commissions (OMC) and Military Commissions Defense Organization (MCDO) by conducting comprehensive pre‑trial investigations and trial preparation under the Military Commissions Act of 2009. Responsibilities Review factual allegations related to the case. Review psychosocial history of the defendant. Investigate government conduct in interrogation and prosecution of the defendant. Interview expert witnesses for and against the defendant. Review cultural issues relating to the defendant. Assist with any other area of investigation deemed necessary by counsel. Execute frequent travel, both local and international. Required Qualifications Active TS/SCI security clearance – must be held in JPAS/DISS. Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Criminal Justice, Administration of Justice, Legal Studies, National Security, Intelligence, Paralegal Studies) or equivalent. 8 years of experience in a relevant discipline, including law, law enforcement, criminal defense, intelligence analysis, psychology, social work, mental health, anthropology, sociology, journalism, or human rights. At least 3 years of experience working with criminal defense, civil rights, immigration, or human rights attorneys on behalf of individual clients. Active US Passport. Experience conducting interviews. Knowledge of investigative process, rules of evidence, and legal case material review. Ability to manage multiple, simultaneous tasks in a fast‑paced environment. Exceptional interpersonal, written and oral communication, attention to detail, analytical and presentation skills. Ability to work independently and with diverse groups. Capable of reporting on‑site in Arlington, VA. Travel requirement: up to 25‑50% travel per month (average 3‑7 days of travel). Desired Qualifications Master's Degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Criminal Justice, Administration of Justice, Legal Studies, National Security, Intelligence, Paralegal Studies). Knowledge of Military Commission process. Progressive experience providing support to criminal litigation. Additional Information Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 hours Telecommuting Options: Onsite only Work Location: USA VA Arlington Salary Range: $107,744 – $132,250 (based on experience, location, and contract).
