Lead Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT or MLS)

We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Lead Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team. This role is responsible for performing laboratory testing, ensuring compliance with quality standards, maintaining laboratory equipment, and supporting the overall productivity of laboratory operations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical skills, accountability, and a commitment to delivering high-quality results.

Full-time, permanent role

Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

$32.00/hour

Position works out of a core laboratory in the Indianapolis, IN area

Responsibilities

• Supervise the day-to-day operations of the Core Laboratory, including chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, and other assigned testing areas
• Oversee and coordinate moderate to high complexity testing activities, ensuring all lab operations are compliant with CLIA, CAP COLA, and relevant state regulations.
• Follow up on quality assurance and quality control procedures to maintain the highest level of accuracy and precision in laboratory testing.
• Ensure QC and instrument maintenance are performed and maintained in compliance with policies of CLIA, CPA, COLA and relevant state regulations.
• Lead, mentor, and manage the laboratory staff, fostering an environment that encourages professional development and team cohesion.
• Perform troubleshooting of instrumentation, resolve technical problems and ensure follow-ups are documented.
• Act as a technical resource for laboratory staff and other healthcare providers, answering queries and providing guidance when necessary.
• Assist in the development and revision of laboratory procedures and protocols.
• Monitor inventory and coordinate procurement of laboratory supplies and equipment.
• Investigate specimen, testing, and quality issues and participate in root-cause analysis and process improvement.
• Review and verify patient results, including abnormal or critical values, according to laboratory policy.
• Perform other job-related tasks as assigned by management.
• Meets all requirements of an MT/MLT as designated in those job descriptions.
• Participates in and facilitates laboratory inspections and audits.

Requirements

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a science-related field.
• MLT or MT (ASCP/AMT) certification required.
• 3 or more years of clinical lab experience working as a generalist.
• Experience with hematology, coagulation, chemistry, urinalysis, and some microbiology.
• Previous laboratory leadership experience is preferred.

Physical and Mental Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods.
• Manual dexterity to handle instruments and perform precise tasks.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to perform under pressure.
