Job Overview Location: New York, New York, United States of America Hours: 40 Pay: $140,000 - $231,000 USD TD’s Digital Banking and Innovation Legal Team is seeking a highly-motivated and forward-thinking Counsel to help shape the future of banking in the digital age. This attorney will partner closely with business, technology, risk, and compliance stakeholders to enable responsible innovation throughout the product lifecycle. As a thought leader on the Digital Banking and Innovation Legal Team, the Counsel will advise on artificial intelligence, digital assets, digital banking platforms, open banking, electronic payment systems, and related third‑party and fintech partnerships. Responsibilities Provide consistent and sound legal advice in a clear, concise and responsive manner. Take initiative to develop legal knowledge and skill; recognize relevant substantive law and identify legal issues. Understand the business, its products, operations, strategy, risk appetite and regulatory environment. Interpret legal requirements through a balanced understanding of law and business context to formulate relevant legal theories. Identify business issues and policies related to legal requirements, and describe legal issues and options to the client. Identify conflict situations and bring more senior lawyers into the decision‑making process when actions conflict with TD’s risk appetite. Contribute to or lead negotiations and conflict resolutions, gathering supportive information, understanding dynamics, and demonstrating effective firmness, tact, patience, and respect. Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree required. JD from an accredited law school required. 5+ years of related experience. Admission to the appropriate State Bar in good standing and licensed to practice law in that State. Basic understanding of banking/financial services operations and issues. Ability to simplify, problem‑solve, multitask and meet deadlines. Integrity and high moral standards. Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills. Strong legal research and analysis skills. Detail‑oriented with the ability to apply legal knowledge to business. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong teamwork and client skills. Highly motivated. May supervise administrative and paralegal staff and junior attorneys. Preferred Qualifications Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on practical and actionable advice. Curiosity, creativity, and resourcefulness. Experience advising banks or other financial services clients in a large law firm setting or similar in‑house experience. Experience advising on commercial and/or retail banking laws, rules, and regulations, including in the context of emerging technology and novel use cases.
