Road Maintenance Supervisor (Open and Promotional)

Road Maintenance Supervisor The Department of Public Works is accepting applications for the position of Road Maintenance Supervisor . Responsibilities Plan, organize, coordinate, direct and participate in road maintenance and construction activities as part of a crew within an assigned area. Supervise, train, evaluate and instruct a small group of subordinate personnel. Investigate and resolve citizen complaints and prepare reports of findings and actions taken. Read and interpret plans, transfer grades from survey stakes. Administer a safety program by ensuring employees' compliance with safety practices and procedures. Administer departmental policies and procedures. Provide input to manager on disciplinary matters. Coach and mentor staff. Perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications Four years of road maintenance and construction work experience. In depth knowledge of road operations. Strong planning and organizational skills. Detail‑oriented and able to manage multiple tasks. Champion for safety. Demonstrates personal trustworthiness and initiative. Team player, willing to work with others to reach shared goals. Valid California‑issued Class A Commercial Driver License with tank vehicle endorsement. Basic arithmetic proficiency. Knowledge of practices, methods, equipment and safety procedures related to road construction and maintenance. Skills & Abilities Foster teamwork and service excellence. Organize, plan, lay out and coordinate work of a small group. Use personal initiative to analyze and solve problems. Read and interpret simple plans and specifications. Enforce common safety practices and procedures. Communicate verbally and in writing. Prepare clear and comprehensive reports. Work effectively and courteously with public and co‑workers. Perform physical tasks including bending, standing, walking, lifting and carrying heavy equipment (≥ 50 lb). Meet DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements for commercial driver license holders. Education & Experience Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical qualification includes four years of experience in road maintenance and construction work. Licensure & Certification Valid California‑issued Class A Commercial Driver License with tank vehicle endorsement.
