CNC Machinist Skills & Requirements High school diploma or GED required; machining coursework preferred. 2+ years of experience setting up and running CNC machinery – Haas or Mazak experience a plus. Strong blueprint reading and math skills for precision work. Excellent attention to detail and safety. Must be able to lift (up to) 50 lbs and stand for extended periods. How You'll Spend Your Day Set up and operate CNC vertical, horizontal, and milling machines. Perform CNC programming using G‑code and make program edits as needed. Utilize Mazak conversational programming (if applicable). Set up jobs including tooling, fixtures, and offsets (touch‑offs). Conduct quality inspections using micrometers, calipers, and specialty gauges. Program and setup jobs using CAM software (Edgecam specifically).
