Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly (LBFE) is committed to enriching the lives of lonely and isolated older adults in San Francisco. Virtually all of our services are carried out by individual volunteers, community, civic, and religious groups, and the business community. LBFE offers flexible and diverse volunteer opportunities, and volunteers can choose to make weekly, monthly, or seasonal time commitments. LBFE’s Visiting Volunteer Program is one of our most impactful and rewarding opportunities and we’re especially looking for Cantonese and Mandarin‑speaking volunteers to be matched one‑on‑one with older adults in our Chinese‑speaking community who are experiencing loneliness and isolation. As a Visiting Volunteer, you’ll build a real and lasting friendship through regular in‑person visits. For many older adults, these visits are the highlight of their week and a vital source of connection, comfort, and joy. To get started, you’ll need to: Attend a one‑time volunteer orientation Complete a background check Join a 1‑hour virtual training for the program If you’re ready to make a lasting impact and speak Cantonese or Mandarin, we would love to match you with an older adult who would benefit from connecting in their native language.
