CT Tech - St. Bernard Parish Hospital (FT - nights)

Job Summary This job assesses patients and safely performs routine computed tomography procedures in accordance with prescribed radiation safety procedures and protocols. Serves as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students. Schedule Full-time: 9 a.m. – 7:30 p.m., Tuesday – Friday. Education Completion of an approved radiologic technology program. Work Experience None required; preferred experience in CT. Certifications Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or certified in computed tomography (CT) by ARRT, or ARRT registry eligible (within 90 days of employment) with temporary state license. CT registry eligible within one year. Advanced certification in CT within one year of becoming CT registry eligible. Current unrestricted state license of practice. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association. Preferred: Advanced certification in CT by an accepted mechanism. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Proficiency in computers, software, and web-based applications. Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to present information clearly and professionally. Strong interpersonal skills. Knowledge of CT procedures and technical terminology. Ability to work efficiently and calmly under pressure. Self-directed; capable of functioning without direct supervision. Flexibility to adjust work duties and hours (including nights, evenings, weekends, holidays, extended shifts, and travel between facilities). General knowledge of cardiac anatomy, Doppler physics, and hemodynamics of blood flow relative to disease states. Ability to preliminarily identify stenosis or occlusion based on national criteria. Ability to assist attending physicians with interventional procedures requiring ultrasonic guidance. Job Duties Verify physician order and procedure for accuracy. Use radiology information systems to facilitate patient care. Explain procedure to patient to ensure understanding. Operate equipment independently to complete imaging procedures per protocol, including IV placement. Review patient images before transmission to confirm diagnostic quality standards. Complete timely quality control procedures per regulatory standards; notify and remediate as warranted. Assist with departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance, etc.). Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, maintaining privacy, introduction, explanations, permissions, and communication style. Perform other related duties as required. Physical and Environmental Demands Medium work: Exerts 20–50 pounds occasionally, 10–25 pounds frequently, or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects. Requires walking or standing to a significant degree, may involve pushing/pulling or production‑rate pace. Exposure to blood, body fluids, and hazardous medications or waste.
