About the Role

The Peer Coach provides recovery-oriented peer support, advocacy, skill development, and resource-navigation assistance to members participating in New Freedom programs. Drawing upon relevant lived experience and formal peer-support training, you will help members recognize their strengths, establish meaningful recovery goals, develop healthy coping strategies, and build the skills and support systems needed for greater independence and successful community reentry.

You will collaborate with Re-Entry Specialists, clinical personnel, and other treatment-team members to support member engagement, continuity of care, and progress toward individualized goals.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

• Provide peer support, encouragement, and recovery coaching
• Help members develop and achieve recovery and reentry goals
• Connect members with resources, services, and community supports
• Facilitate member engagement through individual and group interactions
• Partner with treatment-team members to support positive outcomes
• Monitor member progress and communicate concerns appropriately
• Support community activities, appointments, and transportation needs
• Maintain accurate documentation, confidentiality, and compliance standards

• Members receive respectful, strengths-based, trauma-informed, and recovery-focused support
• Members are actively engaged in identifying and progressing toward meaningful recovery and reentry goals
• Member needs, progress, barriers, and concerns are communicated promptly through established channels
• Documentation is accurate, complete, and submitted within required timeframes
• Professional and ethical boundaries are consistently maintained
• Required supervision, training, continuing education, and certifications remain current
• The Peer Coach works collaboratively with the treatment team while providing a meaningful peer-support perspective
• Productivity expectations, service standards, and departmental performance measures are consistently met

What We’re Looking For

• High school diploma or GED
• Must be at least 21 years old
• Relevant lived experience involving recovery from behavioral health or substance-use challenges, justice-system involvement, reentry, or other challenges relevant to the population served and a current Peer and Recovery Support Specialist, PRSS, Certification
• Qualification for a Behavioral Health Technician designation through at least two years of behavioral health work experience, qualifying higher education, or an applicable combination
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, time-management, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills; the ability to build rapport while maintaining appropriate professional and ethical boundaries; understanding of recovery-oriented peer support, confidentiality, member rights, and self-directed recovery; and the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary treatment team
• Ability to use Microsoft Office applications, Electronic Health Records, and other business technology
• At least one year of experience in peer support, recovery coaching, behavioral health, reentry services, case-management support, or related human services preferred
• Experience supporting individuals affected by substance use, behavioral health conditions, incarceration, homelessness, or other barriers to community stability preferred
• Experience facilitating peer-support groups, recovery activities, or life-skills programming preferred
• Experience supporting employment readiness, resource navigation, or independent-living skill development preferred
• Experience using KIPU or a comparable Electronic Health Record preferred

Environment + Physical Demands

Work is performed in outpatient behavioral health, recovery, reentry, residential, professional office, and community-based environments. The position involves regular interaction with members, Peer Coaches, Re-Entry Specialists, clinicians, medical personnel, organizational leaders, community providers, and other stakeholders.

The role may include one-to-one member interactions, group activities, supervised trips, appointments, and approved community-based services. Occasional local travel may be required. Work schedules may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, or holidays based on program and member needs.

• Requires periods of sitting, standing, walking, and moving throughout office, treatment, residential, and community environments
• Requires frequent verbal, written, and electronic communication
• Requires the ability to observe member behavior and changing circumstances and communicate concerns appropriately
• Requires frequent use of computers, keyboards, telephones, mobile devices, Electronic Health Records, and standard office equipment
• May require accompanying members throughout facilities or community locations and entering and exiting buildings or vehicles
• May occasionally require bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, or moving materials weighing up to 30 pounds
• When transportation is assigned, requires the ability to enter, exit, and safely operate a standard company vehicle and remain seated during periods of travel
