Job Requisition ID #26WD94900About The Team:You will work with a cross-functional team within Autodesk Research, including members of the Simulation, Optimization and Systems (SOS), Industry Futures, and Engineering organizations. Together, the team explores the future of product design for Autodesk’s Design & Manufacturing customers, bridging research, advanced engineering, and real-world workflows. As a member of the team, you will have access to state-of-the-art workshops and manufacturing expertise within the Autodesk Toronto Technology Centre.About The Role:As an Intern at Autodesk, you will be immersed in driving and owning projects that directly impact our customers, internal teams, or core products. You’ll work alongside cross functional teams and mentors within Autodesk Research, gaining hands-on experience to further drive personal growth. In this role you will investigate and prototype a model-based systems engineering (MBSE) approach tailored for the conceptual design of small-scale mechanical assemblies. The intern will explore integration of MBSE practices with computational geometry, AI/ML methods, and CAD/CAM workflows to improve early design fidelity.Responsibilities:Having a dedicated mentor who will help you navigate through Autodesk from Day 1 – all while showing you what it means to be an Autodesker!Managing your project end-to-end, including research, project planning, implementation, and demonstrationPartnering with various cross-functional teams to solve critical problems across the Autodesk organizationCombine your knowledge of Model Based Systems Engineering and state-of-the-art AI tools to create proof-of-concept prototypes and demonstrationsManaging incomplete, ambiguous, or evolving requirements during early concept developmentAdapt MBSE processes traditionally used for large-scale systems to smaller assemblies while maintaining design fidelityIntegration of your output into broader team initiativesActing as an MBSE reference for the team and providing guidance with respect to the products being studiedDocument research findings, prototypes, and lessons learned for future referenceMinimum Qualifications:Master’s degree program in Systems Engineering or Model Based Systems Engineering (Must be currently enrolled in a full-time, degree seeking program)Proven track record with managing projects and challengesWorking knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, including assembly design and kinematic analysisProficiency in Python and experience with software development for prototypingExposure to AI/ML concepts and experience using AI tools for software development or prototypingExperience with CAD/CAM and reverse engineeringUnderstanding of product design, manufacturing processes, and design-for-assembly principlesSystems Engineering & MBSEFamiliarity with SysMLUnderstanding of quantitative trade-off methods (Multi-Attribute Utility Theory, Pareto analysis)Experience using Modelica, MATLAB, or similar tools for systems analysisPractical experience applying model-based systems engineering principles to product designPreferred Qualifications:Prior experience from internships, extracurriculars, or other side projectsExperience working with cross-functional teamsPassion for Autodesk and/or desire to learn more about the domainDoctoral degree program in Systems Engineering or Model Based Systems EngineeringExperience operating advanced manufacturing equipment (i.e. CNC mill, 3D-scanner, CMM, 3d printers)Experience designing assemblies and product development processesWell versed in implementing MBSE frameworks and system architecturesAbout the Canada Intern ProgramThe 2026 Canada program runs for 16 weeks (May 4 – August 21).
