GIS Support Specialist

Position Description Support Specialist to assist the GIS Coordination Program Manager in implementing Geographic Information Coordinating Council (GICC) initiatives. The role provides administrative support for six subcommittees and technical support for working groups, working closely with the Program Manager to plan, develop, evaluate council policies, strategies, and initiatives. Key Responsibilities Write charters, technical reports, updates, minutes, framework dataset schemas, and website designs for the council. Research technical solutions and create/update geospatial datasets. Develop and publish online content, including applications and websites, employing ArcGIS Online tools such as Experience Builder, StoryMaps, and Survey123. Compile data from multiple sources, automate data edits with scripting or automation tools, and perform quality checks before publication. Communicate with working group members to document needs, research implementation options, and report solutions. Support a remote work arrangement, available locally and able to attend the office one day per week (Tuesdays) and on short notice if required. Qualifications At least 3 years of experience using Esri’s ArcGIS Desktop suite (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro). Strong understanding of editing and maintaining GIS data in the Esri ArcGIS suite. Proficiency in data visualization and cartography for producing static GIS maps. Experience applying geospatial workflows, data management, and analysis. Experience in a SDE versioned multi-user environment is preferred. Exposure to online mapping tools and knowledge of NC OneMap is highly desired.
