Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced IT Engineer to support enterprise monitoring and observability operations with a primary focus on Dynatrace . This role will be responsible for the day-to-day administration, health, configuration, onboarding, optimization, and operational support of the Dynatrace platform across application, infrastructure, cloud, network, and IT service management environments.

The IT Engineer will partner closely with application teams, infrastructure, network, cloud, ServiceNow, and other technology groups to ensure monitoring coverage is reliable, alerts are actionable, telemetry is available when needed, and technical issues can be identified and routed quickly. The role will also support application onboarding, dashboard and KPI development, incident investigation, root cause analysis, Azure monitoring, automation, and continuous improvement of the broader observability ecosystem.

The ideal candidate has hands-on Dynatrace and Application Performance Monitoring experience, strong troubleshooting skills, and an understanding of how metrics, logs, traces, events, topology, synthetics, and user experience data can be used together to improve system reliability and business outcomes.

Key ResponsibilitiesDynatrace Platform Operations

• Perform daily health checks of the Dynatrace SaaS tenant, ActiveGates, extensions, integrations, and related platform components.

• Administer Dynatrace user access, identity groups, management zone assignments, service identities, and API token ownership.

• Manage platform configuration including RBAC, tagging standards, dashboards, workflows, and environment settings.

• Monitor Dynatrace platform consumption and identify unexpected telemetry growth.

• Support cost attribution and recommend optimization opportunities while maintaining required monitoring coverage.

• Maintain operational standards, knowledge articles, runbooks, event management practices, and support documentation.

• Perform platform analytics, reporting, and operational reviews.

• Support platform upgrades, enhancements, and future capability adoption.

• Manage technical escalations with Dynatrace support when issues require vendor assistance.

Application Onboarding & Instrumentation

• Support onboarding of new applications and services into Dynatrace.

• Partner with application teams to understand monitoring requirements and define appropriate acceptance criteria.

• Assist teams with instrumentation strategy, configuration, and monitoring design.

• Deploy and support OneAgent, ActiveGate, Synthetics, Smartscape, and Real User Monitoring (RUM) .

• Verify monitoring coverage, alerting, integrations, and operational readiness before applications are accepted into steady-state support.

• Confirm ServiceNow routing and alert configuration are functioning correctly before operational handoff.

• Help ensure monitoring standards are applied consistently across onboarded applications.

Monitoring & Observability

• Drive effective Application Performance Monitoring across enterprise applications and services.

• Review and improve alert quality by identifying duplicate, noisy, unactionable, incorrectly scoped, or incorrectly routed alerts.

• Perform anomaly detection and assist technology teams with root cause analysis.

• Use metrics, logs, traces, topology, events, and synthetic results to support technical investigations.

• Correlate performance data across application, infrastructure, cloud, and network layers.

• Identify monitoring gaps and recommend improvements that increase visibility and reduce operational blind spots.

• Build dashboards and KPIs aligned to technical health, service performance, and business outcomes.

Cross-Platform & Network Monitoring

• Support approved integrations between Dynatrace and cloud, infrastructure, network, and ITSM monitoring platforms.

• Help integrate Dynatrace with network and infrastructure monitoring tools.

• Partner with network teams using performance, flow, and telemetry tools to improve cross-platform visibility.

• Correlate application performance issues with infrastructure and network conditions.

• Support operational workflows that connect observability tools with incident, event, and support processes.

• Help ensure events and alerts are routed to the correct support teams.

Azure & Cloud Observability

• Administer and support Dynatrace monitoring for Azure-hosted applications, infrastructure, and platform services.

• Partner with cloud engineering teams to establish appropriate monitoring coverage and telemetry collection.

• Support monitoring of cloud-hosted workloads, dependencies, services, and infrastructure components.

• Assist with troubleshooting cloud connectivity, access, integrations, and monitoring prerequisites.

• Identify opportunities to improve observability for Azure-based environments.

Automation & DevOps Support

• Use scripting or automation to improve repeatability, configuration consistency, reporting, and operational efficiency.

• Support automation of recurring Dynatrace administration and monitoring activities where practical.

• Partner with DevOps and engineering teams to incorporate observability into application delivery and operational processes.

• Promote consistent configuration and monitoring standards across environments.

• Bring an automation-first mindset to repetitive support, reporting, and platform management tasks.

Incident Response & Troubleshooting

• Diagnose Dynatrace product, configuration, collection, integration, and access issues.

• Investigate OneAgent, ActiveGate, extension, synthetic monitoring, and telemetry collection failures.

• Validate telemetry availability, freshness, and completeness during production incidents.

• Use Dynatrace data to support incident triage and technical investigations.

• Partner with application, infrastructure, network, cloud, and ServiceNow teams to route issues to the appropriate restoration team.

• Document investigations, corrective actions, known gaps, and vendor escalations in ITSM records.

• Participate in incident and problem management activities involving monitoring, performance, or observability.

Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence

• Participate in problem management for recurring platform failures, alert noise, routing issues, and monitoring blind spots.

• Identify opportunities to improve monitoring coverage, alert quality, operational processes, and support efficiency.

• Recommend changes that improve system stability, observability maturity, and incident response effectiveness.

• Maintain and improve operational documentation, standards, and runbooks.

• Help translate technical insights into meaningful business or service impact.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Perform Dynatrace platform health checks and review tenant performance.

• Administer users, access groups, service identities, tokens, tagging, and management zones.

• Support application onboarding and monitoring instrumentation.

• Investigate alert noise, missing telemetry, integration failures, and routing problems.

• Build and maintain dashboards, KPIs, reports, and workflows.

• Troubleshoot OneAgent, ActiveGate, synthetic, RUM, and extension issues.

• Support Azure, infrastructure, network, and ServiceNow integrations.

• Assist application and infrastructure teams during incidents using observability data.

• Monitor telemetry consumption and recommend platform optimization opportunities.

• Maintain runbooks, knowledge articles, standards, and ITSM documentation.

• Participate in continuous improvement and problem management activities.

Required Qualifications

• 2–5 years of hands-on Dynatrace and observability experience .

• Experience supporting enterprise monitoring or Application Performance Monitoring platforms.

• Strong understanding of observability concepts and practices.

• Experience with Application Performance Monitoring, monitoring, alerting, and operational analytics.

• Incident response and troubleshooting experience in enterprise technology environments.

• Experience supporting Dynatrace administration, configuration, dashboards, alerting, or integrations.

• Experience with cloud technologies, preferably Microsoft Azure .

• Experience with scripting or automation.

• Experience working with network monitoring tools or network performance data.

• Understanding of metrics, logs, traces, events, synthetics, topology, and telemetry correlation.

• Experience with IT Service Management processes and tools; ServiceNow strongly preferred .

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work effectively across application, infrastructure, network, cloud, and operations teams.

• Ability to work onsite Tuesday through Thursday in Columbus, OH.

Education & Certifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

• Relevant certifications such as Dynatrace, Microsoft Azure, or ITIL are a plus.

• Dynatrace Associate Certification .

• Experience supporting large enterprise environments.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a hands-on observability engineer with strong Dynatrace experience who can operate effectively across both platform administration and production support. They should be comfortable onboarding applications, configuring monitoring, improving alert quality, troubleshooting telemetry issues, supporting incidents, and partnering across application, infrastructure, network, cloud, and ITSM teams.

The strongest candidates will bring direct experience with Dynatrace SaaS, OneAgent, ActiveGate, Synthetics, RUM, Azure, ServiceNow, automation, and root cause analysis , along with the communication skills to translate technical findings into clear operational and business impact.
